Blooming Agave
At the canyon, weeks after the brittlebushes, palo verdes and cacti have finished blooming, the agave flowers begin to open.
Though commonly called
century
plant, agaves typically only take ten to twenty five years to mature.
After flowering, the mother plant dies. Offshoots of the agave can continue to grow and eventually bloom.
Bees and hummingbirds love them!

Bighorn Sheep
We saw two bighorn sheep at the canyon. The smaller one is wearing a GPS collar, the sheep are likely part of a
reintroduction
effort.

Almost Summer
These pictures are from May 31st. It's warming up, we've had several 100 degree days already. Monsoon season will begin soon. Rain is always welcome in the desert.
Enjoy the change of season. :)
