- Réimse contúirteach uisce in Victoria na hAstráile is ea An Sruth (“The Rip” nó “The Heads”) idir Port Phillip agus Caolas Bass. Is é an t-aon bhealach amháin é chun dul isteach in Port Phillip agus as sin go dtí Melbourne. Téann taoide láidir trí chuisle chaol idir an bhá agus an t-aigéan agus tá grinneall ard carraigeach ann. Ó thaobh na tíreolaíochta de, is é an réimse uisce é atá le fáil idir Rinn Nepean, Leathaill Shortland agus Rinn Lonsdale: is iad na háiteanna seo “Na Reanna”. Tá contúirt ag baint leis an míchothroime seo agus le sruthanna taoide atá chomh luath le sé chnota. D’fhéadfadh doimhneacht an tSrutha a bheith idir céad méadar agus cúig mhéadar. Is é Stáisiún Comharthaíochta Rinn Lonsdale a stiúrann teacht agus imeacht na long idir na Reanna. Ní ceadmhach do longa móra teacht isteach mura bhfuil píolóta cáilithe ar bord. Thosaigh an tseirbhís sa bhliain 1839: dhéanadh na píolótaí campáil ar an trá agus thugadh daoránaigh amach chun na long iad i mbáid mhíolta móra. Faoi láthair tá tríocha píolóta ann agus lainsí den saghas is nua acu.Tá Solas Íseal Queenscliff (“an teach solais bán”) agus Solas Ard Queenscliff (“an teach solais dubh”) mar shoilse stiúrtha chun longa a thabhairt tríd an bpríomhchuisle, in éineacht le solas dearg Thúr Hume agus solas uaine Thúr Murray. - "The Rip", also known as "The Heads", is the narrow waterway entrance connecting the Bass Strait to the bay of Port Phillip in southern Victoria, Australia, and is the only route of maritime transport into Port Phillip and thus seaport access into Melbourne and Geelong, Victoria's two largest cities. Because of large tidal flows through the relatively narrow channel from the bay to the ocean, and a high rocky seabed, The Rip is a dangerous stretch of water and has claimed numerous ships and many lives. Geographically, it is the roughly triangular area of water between the land points of Point Nepean on the Mornington Peninsula, Shortlands Bluff and Point Lonsdale on the Bellarine Peninsula, with these three forming The Heads.
