La manifestazione si è svolta dal 15 al 17 giugno sugli sterrati rocciosi che attraversano la zona costiera della Grecia Centrale attorno alla cittadina di Itea, base designata per il rally, e Parnassos, dove venne allestito il parco assistenza; la cerimonia di partenza si tenne come di consueto nel cuore della capitale Atene L'evento è stato vinto dal britannico Colin McRae, navigato dal connazionale Nicky Grist, al volante di una Ford Focus RS WRC 01 della squadra Ford Martini, alla loro terza vittoria consecutiva in stagione, davanti alla coppia formata dal norvegese Petter Solberg e dal britannico Phil Mills, su Subaru Impreza WRC2001 della scuderia Subaru World Rally Team, entrambi per la prima volta sul podio in una gara iridata, e all'equipaggio finlandese composto da Harri Rovanperä e Risto Pietiläinen, alla guida di una Peugeot 206 WRC (2001) del team Peugeot Total. Wyprzedzili oni norwesko-brytyjską załogę Petter Solberg – Phil Mills w Subaru Imprezie WRC oraz Finów Harriego Rovanperę i Risto Pietiläinena w Peugeocie 206 WRC. Z kolei w Production WRC zwyciężyli Argentyńczycy Gabriel Pozzo i , jadący Mitsubishi Lancerem Evo VI, a w Junior WRC francusko-monakijska załoga Sébastien Loeb – Daniel Elena w Citroënie Saxo VTS S1600. Rajdu nie ukończyło siedmiu kierowców fabrycznych. Kierowca Peugeota 206 WRC Fin Marcus Grönholm odpadł na 3. odcinku specjalnym z powodu niskiego poziomu oleju. Jego partner z zespołu Peugeota, Francuz Didier Auriol, wycofał się z rajdu na 1. odcinku specjalnym z powodu awarii sprzęgła. Hiszpan Carlos Sainz w Fordzie Focusie WRC odpadł na 20. odcinku specjalnym z powodu awarii silnika. Szwed jadący Hyundaiem Accentem WRC zrezygnował z jazdy po awarii turbosprężarki na 7. odcinku specjalnym. Rajdu nie ukończył też Brytyjczyk Richard Burns w Subaru Imprezie WRC, który na 19. oesie doznał awarii skrzyni biegów. Szwed Thomas Rådström w Citroënie Xsarze WRC miał awarię układu elektrycznego na 6. odcinku specjalnym. Z kolei trzeci kierowca Subaru, Estończyk Markko Märtin, zrezygnował z jazdy na 7. oesie z powodu awarii zawieszenia. (pl)
