This paper proposes a combination of Discrete Imperialistic Competition and Nelder-Mead algorithm... more This paper proposes a combination of Discrete Imperialistic Competition and Nelder-Mead algorithms to solve D-STATCOMs placement optimization problem. It is assumed that optimal number, locations and sizes of D-STATCOMs are determined in radial distribution network while Distributed Generations are previously installed in it. Indeed, we focus on voltage control and concept of reactive power management in annual scheduling time interval. Objective function is defined in terms of network active power losses and voltage stability characteristic at different load levels by appropriate weighting factors. Voltage Stability Index (VSI) is applied to identify the weak buses in radial distribution network. To validate performance and effectiveness of proposed DICA-NM hybrid algorithm, simulation studies are applied on the 30-bus IEEE radial distribution test feeder. Finally, numerical results for some important network variables have been compared in three different case studies.

This paper proposes an approach for optimizing location and amount of spinning reserve correspond... more This paper proposes an approach for optimizing location and amount of spinning reserve corresponding to the optimal customer load points risk with cost/benefit analysis in UC program and uses single credible contingency of generating units for evaluation of generation and composit systems reliability. Spinning reserve is provided by Gencos and interruptible loads, according to a day ahead pool market conditions. The expected cost of energy not supplied is considered as a probabilistic index of system’s risk measurement in two reliability levels analysis for balancing between benefit derived from spinning reserve against an estimate of the cost of its provision. Finally, Simulation results and sensitivity analysis are presented to evaluate the impacts of change in some important factors such as, value of lost load on different load buses and offered power-price of interruptible loads in each time period of operation planning according to the next day pool market conditions.

This paper introduces a new algorithm for the parameter setting of FACTS devices such as TCSC in ... more This paper introduces a new algorithm for the parameter setting of FACTS devices such as TCSC in transmission networks while optimizing amount and location of spinning reserve, simultaneously. Spinning reserve is provided by GENCOs and Interruptible loads. Risk Based Unit Commitment has been solved by cost/benefit analysis according to a day-ahead pool market condition with simultaneous clearing energy and reserve. The expected cost of energy not supplied is considered as a probabilistic index for balancing between benefit derived from spinning reserve against an estimate of the cost of its provision. Single credible contingencies of generating units are applied for evaluation of generation (HLI) and generation/transmission (HLII) systems reliability. Finally, simulation study and sensitivity analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of new algorithm are performed on a four-bus typical test system by changing in one of important reliability factors such as value of lost load on different load buses of transmission network.
