RICHMOND HILL, Ga. (WTOC) - There were several water rescues Saturday in Richmond Hill on Rushing Street, and many families voluntarily evacuating.

Rushing street started taking in water several days ago and as water continues to come down it keeps rising.

There’s not an exact number from the county on the water rescue count, but the city says anyone who wants help out of their homes can call the non-emergency line.

“I don’t have a number of how many we have, but we are working with the Red Cross. So if the families do not have a place to go, they’re helping us coordinate hotel rooms in order to get them to a safe place at this point and time. We are NOT doing a mandatory evacuation- this is purely voluntary. Of course, if anyone has anything serious emergency- they do need to call 911 right away. But if this is a request to be removed from their home at this time, they need to call 912-756-3749- that’s the Richmond Hill Fire department non emergency line,” said City Clerk, Dawn Green.

Crews continue to evacuate, homes, families, and pets.

Some streets worse off than others, but all those rescued say they are extremely grateful for the help
