SCREVEN COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - Screven County Emergency Management Agency has opened a shelter location for residents who fear their home could flood, or has flooded, due to Lake Eureka Road dam potentially failing.

The shelter is located at 1605 Millen Highway.

They also advise everyone to avoid Eureka Road at Savannah Highway due to possible flooding.

“Our two biggest concerns right now obviously have been Lake Eureka out on Hwy 21. We’ve been trying to prevent a dam failure there, a tremendous amount of our resources have been focused that way to prevent that. It would cause major damage to highway 21, a bridge, and a lot of homes and residences if that happened so we’ve put a lot of effort in to try to prevent that. So far, we’re winning,” said Screven EMA.
