Motivation
[edit]This is to replace the usage of of (P642) in union of (P2737) and disjoint union of (P2738) since we are depreciating that property.
The property is called "one of class" to mimic the OWL property used for unionOf/disjointUnionOf called "one of".

- Support This seems like a nice property, could potentially be used for more, too. -wd-Ryan (Talk/Edits) 16:01, 30 October 2022 (UTC)
- Support replacing of (P642) is good. ChristianKl ❪✉❫ 19:54, 1 November 2022 (UTC)
- Comment I support this in principle but the label "one of class" is quite confusing. Why is it "one of class"? What is the one refering to? Similarly, why is it "one of class"? Could we not have one of an instance? Would it be wrong to say, for example, that The Beatles (Q1299) was a disjoint union of its members? I see this is model using "has part(s)" but disjoint union seems to also be valid. — The Erinaceous One 🦔 09:59, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
- Idk. I just used the same property name as the OWL vocabulary to get "one of". I couldn't come up with anything better myself.
- I think you're confusing disjoint union of (P2738) with union of (P2737). disjoint union of (P2738) is only one while union of (P2737) is one or more. Both of these properties are supposed to only be used on classes. Not instances like The Beatles (Q1299). Lectrician1 (talk) 13:55, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
- Okay, I think I follow now. Here are some ideas for labels that are more clear: "elements of union (class)", "classes of union", "composed of (class)", "constituent classes" (or simply "constituents", although that might be confused with voting constituents). — The Erinaceous One 🦔 04:00, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
- Comment So what properties with this qualifier basically say is “all instances of this class are [also] instances of [exactly] one of the classes used as values of this qualifier”? In the example, this would be: All instances of broadcasting program (Q11578774) are also instance of radio program (Q1555508), television program (Q15416), or both; all instances of nucleon (Q102165) are also instance of either proton (Q2294) or neutron (Q2348), but not both. Seems plausible, but the qualifier property name is indeed very opaque. --2A02:8108:50BF:C694:530:6744:9D46:5AA1 14:13, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
- Another Comment – since this would be supposed to be used with list of values as qualifiers (Q23766486), couldn’t a transparent name be “list item”? --2A02:8108:50BF:C694:530:6744:9D46:5AA1 14:14, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
- I like that. It would make it easier to remember and make useful for any type of property that might have a list of values. — The Erinaceous One 🦔 22:55, 6 November 2022 (UTC)
- Sounds good. Lectrician1 (talk) 20:40, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
- Does the new label open up any new uses for the proposed property beside union of (P2737) and disjoint union of (P2738)? — The Erinaceous One 🦔 06:45, 9 November 2022 (UTC)
- Technically, the properties union of and disjoint union of has a value type "Collection" which is a collection of nodes and why we use this weird "list of values as qualifiers" and "list item" thing. I'm not aware of any other property in Wikidata that needs a collection as a data type. Lectrician1 (talk) 15:37, 9 November 2022 (UTC)

- Strong support The new label "list item" makes this a very nice proposal. — The Erinaceous One 🦔 06:46, 9 November 2022 (UTC)
