Lyons was born March 4, 1971, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. A graduate of Dollarway High School, he attended the University of South Alabama for three years. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1997 and was a crewmember on the U.S.S. Gettysburg before transferring to the Pentagon in January 2001. Nine months later he was one of 184 people who died during the Pentagon attack. A family member recalled that Lyons was “shy, a very giving person, very hard-working and dedicated.”

I did 911 challenge in Tucson, AZ today wearing a badge in honor of Nehamon Lyons. If he had survived he would be only 2 years younger than me today. Thank you for your service.
