Hi, yes, we have an emergency.

Do do you, do you think you can get-

have someone come up to help us tie a tie?

[door clicking]

[Anderson] Yeah. There you go.

Oh, there he is.

Let me assist you with your tie.

Thank you so much.

[funky upbeat music]

Yo, what's up Vanity Fair.

This is Anderson .Paak.

Join me and my son Soul

as we get ready for the world premiere of my movie,

K-Pops at the Toronto Film Fest.

Come on, take your shoes off.

[upbeat funky music]

This is my first film, and with this film

I think they can expect a whole lot of joy.

A whole lot of fun.

You know, it's a heartwarming movie.

Amazing music collaborations that I got to do.

I'm just really so proud of it.

I'm just trying to just like relish in the moment

that we actually made it to TIFF

and like I get to watch it on the screen with my fam.

[Interviewer] What's it like being directed by your dad?

At first I was kind of like hesitant,

but I'm glad I did this film.

It's pretty easy to work with him and like-

You can pan it over here. [laughs]

He started getting a little older during the shoot

and there was that one scene

where he didn't wanna sing, but-

I'd actually like to expand on that.

[Anderson] Yeah, go ahead. [laughs]

So during this film, like obviously I was getting older.

I was 12 when this movie when when filming started.

Within the span of a year and a half I changed a lot.

So, you know, costumes had to like extend

like my l- my pants or something.

Oh yeah, and ADR, it was hard

'cause I had to raise my voice like four octaves.

Like [laughs] one scene is like super high-pitched.

Not a lot of people get the luxury of having

their puberty caught on camera.

He's a natural, like he's really sup-

like, I'm not surprised actually,

'cause like I did the whole movie with him,

so I know like how good he is.

[Soul] Uh-huh. Surprised And under pressure

and I'm just, I'm just so proud of him.

He's just, it's really cool to be able to, to watch it.

I forget sometimes like, wait, that's my spawn.

[Interviewer] Have you done the red carpet thing

with your dad before?

Did we? For Grammys, yeah for-

Oh yeah. That's when you met BTS.

Or you wanted to meet BTS.

Oh yeah. Oh yeah. I wanted to meet BTS

and then there was a bunch of people trying to get to them

so they were kind of just stressed out.

I remember that. That was pretty, 'cause it was,

I, I was a diehard fan, so that was like a toll for me.

One time we actually all went to a BTS concert.

That was an experience, right Dad?

Yeah. You got to meet 'em.

That time you got to actually meet 'em.

Oh yeah, that time, that time

I actually got to meet BTS backstage.

Yeah. I mean I knew of them just from his mom and, and

and from Soul like being obsessed with them in the house.

And I remember that when he couldn't get a chance

to meet them, how like sad he was and I was like,

I'm determined to do what I can to meet them

and hopefully they'll be able to meet him

when they, when they play again.

And that was really cool to be able to see their concert.

It was super dope.

And then his mom was like fanning out so hard too.

[Soul] Yes.

And eventually like to get to do music with with RM.

[Soul] Yeah. Yeah. That was cool. Suga.

You gonna FaceTime your grandma?

I think she just got out the shower.

Halmeoni.

[Grandma] Mm how are you? Today is, uh-

Yeah. Yeah. Happy day. Happy day.

[Anderson] Happy day.

[Grandma] K-Pops, right thing?

[Grandma] Yeah. See you later.

[Soul] This is fire.

[soulful music]

Yeah, we're both gonna be in uh-

[Soul] Thom Browne. Thom Browne.

Shout out to Thom Browne.

I got Nate on the case making sure I looked like

I got plenty of sleep.

Crystal, my stylist, you know, I wanted to do something

that wasn't like, not, not like Fashion Week,

but just more like, the leading role era,

actor, director era.

And so I think that the Thom Browne matching outfits

is gonna be pretty perfect.

Tried to get as much sleep as I could,

but it was hard to go to sleep

'cause I'm just like so nervous about the premiere.

[Soul] Yes.

It's the first time we played it for people.

But I feel better being able to like hang out with him

and you know, it helps calm my nerves.

[smooth drums and guitar]

Where's the YouTube tutorial?

[laughs]

[Israel] Israel, can you- Yeah?

Where's the YouTube?

Pull it up.

Pull it up bro.

Pull it up bro.

We're trying to tie a tie.

There's only like a small percentage of people

in the world that know how to do it.

So we go to YouTube.

[YouTube Video] From behind,

thread it all the way through, like this.

Thread it through the back.

Hold on.

[YouTube Video] Now, take the wide end.

We're having some, uh-

Let's cut the cameras for a sec.

[laughs]

Hi, yes, we have an emergency.

Do do you, do you think you can get,

have someone come up to help us tie a tie?

Yes. Send in the reinforcements.

Thank you so much. ASAP.

[Soul] You have to be a complete buffoon if you-

You have to be a complete buffoon

to not be able to do this.

[laughs]

This is what we call an Idiots Knot.

Essential.

[cologne spraying]

Little Tom Ford Black Orchid.

Usually don't give that secret away 'cause, you know,

I don't want anybody else smelling like me.

I shower in this. I bleed this.

[upbeat big band music]

[feet tapping]

This is a piece given to me by Bruno Mars himself.

Silk Sonic. One of my bands.

I like to call it Swap Meet Chic.

I don't have too many jewelry pieces

so I usually sleep in them and just wear 'em every day.

Ah, another piece right here from IF & Co.

This is a two-parter, okay?

That's one and that's two.

[doorknob clicks]

[Man] Yeah, there you go.

Oh, there he is.

Lemme assist you with your tie.

Thank you so much.

I don't know how to do it on yourself.

I'll do it first on myself.

Your way.

Oh, my head is pretty big. So give yourselves.

Oh yes, I do this on the train sometimes.

Right, right. Nice.

[laughs]

Wow, that's slick.

If we have like-

And, yep. Yeah.

Would you mind?

Jesus Christ. Um.

I got my movie premiere today.

Oh Yeah.

Good luck. This is my co-star.

Break a leg. Thank you.

I think that's perfect.

[upbeat guitar and bass]

Going straight to carpet, son. It's now or never.

Can't hide this movie any longer.

[funky upbeat music]

[hand claps]

Meet the Sirskees, yeah. [laughs]

Introducing, Soul Rasheed.

Yeah. [laughs]

Let's go sell this movie.

[funky upbeat music]

See you guys later.

See you.

Thank you so much Vanity Fair.

Later guys

[Interviewer] See you.
