California’s Massive Park Fire Continues to Grow

An enormous wildfire—one of the largest in state history—is currently raging in northern California. Over the past five days, the Park Fire has expanded to more than 360,000 acres, and is only 12 percent contained, according to Cal Fire. Dry conditions and strong, gusty winds have driven the rapid growth of the blaze, reportedly caused by a man pushing a burning car into a ravine in the city of Chico. Thousands of people have been forced to evacuate, and more than 100 structures have been destroyed so far.
