ETHICS IN

COMMUNICATION
LESSON 3
“Education without values, as
useful as it is seems rather to
make man a more clever devil.”
-C.S. LEWIS
WHAT IS IT?
Ethics - comes from the Greek word ethos, which
means custom, habit, character or outlook.

People in general expect to be

treated with dignity, fairness, respect
or with basic courtesy in their
communication encounters.
ETHICS AS A
UNIVERSAL APPROACH
1.Adhering to the golden rule of
the platinum rule
• GOLDEN RULE - Always treat others in the same way you
want to be treated.
• PLATINUM RULE - Treating others the way they wish to
be treated.

2. Considering the feelings of the
receiver.
• If we are less careful with our words, tone, and non-
verbal gestures, people could negatively affected.

• It will be best to maintain tact and diplomacy in our

communications.

3. Acknowledging the source of idea
and information.
• Sources of ideas and information should be
acknowledged appropriately at all times.

• Unfortunately, there are also those (for whatever reason)
seem to enjoy propagating falsehood.
