ART APPRECIATION
Art appreciation in tertiary level is the study of art, including its
history, cultural context, and aesthetic significance. It can help
students develop critical thinking skills and an appreciation for
the unique perspectives of others.

Art appreciation is a college course that teaches


students how to understand and evaluate art. It involves
studying the history of art, the techniques used to
create art, and the cultural context in which art was
created.
ART
Art describes a diverse range of cultural activity
centered
around works utilizing creative or imaginative talents
, which are expected to evoke a worthwhile
experience, generally through an expression of
emotional power, conceptual ideas, technical
proficiency, and/or beauty.
The nature of art and related concepts, such as creativity
and interpretation, are explored in a branch of philosophy known
as aesthetics. The resulting artworks are studied in the professional
fields of art criticism and the history of art.

In the perspective of the history of art, artistic works have existed for
almost as long as humankind: from early prehistoric art to contemporary
art; however, some theorists think that the typical concept of "artistic
works" does not fit well outside modern Western societies. One early
sense of the definition of art is closely related to the older Latin meaning,
which roughly translates to "skill" or "craft", as associated with words
such as "artisan". English words derived from this meaning
include artifact, artificial, artifice, medical arts, and military arts. However,
there are many other colloquial uses of the word, all with some relation
to its etymology.
The Creation of Arts

The creation of a work of art is the bringing about of a new combination of


elements in the medium (tones in music, words in literature, paints on
canvas, and so on). The elements existed beforehand but not in the same
combination; creation is the re-formation of these pre-existing materials.

Functions of Arts
Art has many functions, including personal, social, and physical. The
function of a piece of art depends on its context, such as the artist's intent,
time period, and cultural influences.
Personal functions
Self-expression: Art allows artists to express their thoughts and feelings
Imagination: Art provides a way to express the imagination in a non-
grammatical way
Social functions
Raising awareness: Art can depict social issues to raise awareness or
encourage action
Bridging gaps: Art can help artists and consumers connect with each
other
Reflecting values: Art can reflect the values of a society
Physical functions
Art can have practical uses in architecture, ceremonies, jewelry, and
interior design

Artists use physical materials like stone, clay, wood, and metal to create
art
