SHADVARGA
The Natal Chart, Hora, Drekkana, Navamsha, Dwadashamsha And Trimshamsha
These Six Are Known As Shadvarga Or Six Divisional Charts.
As per Vedic astrology, Shadvarga is a system of six divisions of a sign,
or vargas, used to make predictions. The six divisions are:
•Rasi - The sign
•Hora - The wealth and material accumulation of the native
•Drekkana - The decanate, or siblings and their relationships
•Navamsa - The married life and spouse
•Dwadasamsa - The parents, their health, and support
•Trimsamsa - A division of the sign
Hora
Acquisition of wealth, property and finance are studied through the Hora chart.
When male planets occupy the Sun’s Hora, wealth is acquired with hard work and
indicates high position.
When female planets occupy the Moon’s Hora, it is beneficial. Female planets in the
Sun’ Hora and male planets in the Moon’s Hora may not help. Planets should
correspond to the 2nd house, 2nd lord from Ascendant and Moon sign from the Rashi
chart.
Drekkana
Kalyanavarma describes certain qualities on the basis of Drekkana, the main concept
being the co-borns and their equations and reciprocity between them
Before analyzing the Drekkana chart, we have to consider the Rashi chart, of 3 rd, 5th
7th, 9th and 11th houses. 11th house stands for elder brother/sister while 3rd house
represents younger born.
When there are younger brothers, we have to see 3rd to 3rd house (5Th house) and
3rd to 5th house (7th house) and so on. For elder brothers, we have to see 11th to
11th house (9th house) and so on
“
Navamsha
Navamsha stands for the spouse. The strength of planets in the Rashi is
complemented by the planets in the Navamsha. We have to consider the
7th house and 7th lord in Rashi also.
Dwadasamsha
From Dwadasamsha, we get information about parents.
The 4th, 9th and 10th houses from Rashi are to be
considered too.
Trimsamsha
Arishta and misfortune can be found by Trimsamsha.
USES AND IMPORTANCE OF DIVISIONAL CHARTS
How Shadvarga is used
The relationship between the planets and the rulers of the six divisions is used to
calculate the auspiciousness of a birth
The six charts are checked together to understand how a planet is affecting a
native's life
A Shadvarga analysis can help determine the reasons for troubles and miseries,
strong and weak areas of life, and good and bad periods in life
Divisional chart is a microscopic study of each Bhava.
Rashi does not give complete picture of all 12 Bhavas in a Dasha
and a Bhukti.
Divisional charts spell out in clear terms Dasha/Bhukti effects on
all 12 Bhavas.
Transit has a special importance in all divisional charts.
Since each Bhava has many Karakatwas, it is difficult to
differentiate each Bhava Karakatwa on Rashi chart only.
“
Importance of Ascendant in Divisional charts
Ascendant lord is important in all divisional charts.
In other words Ascendant lord should be very strong in the divisional chart and
Ascendant should not be occupied by malefic planets.
Karakas in Divisional Charts
1) The positions of Karakas in relation to the Ascendant of the Divisional Chart are
important.
2) Special emphasis is made to Drekkana, Saptamsha, Navamsha and Dwadasamsha as
karakas in these charts should not occupy the Ascendant.
3) Karaka position in other divisional charts especially in Ascendant will not affect the
Karakatwas of the respective chart.
4) Karakas should not occupy Dusthanas
5) Mars and Jupiter should be considered as additional Karakas in a female chart in the
Navamsha.

SHADBALA
Shadbala is a system used to measure the strength of planets in a birth chart.
The term “Shadbala” means “sixfold strength,” as it considers six different
factors to determine how powerful a planet is and its ability to influence a
person’s life positively.
Shadbala is a systematic way to evaluate the capacity of each planet to deliver
results.
It is not just about whether a planet is placed in a favourable or unfavourable
house but also about how much strength it has to act.
If a planet has strong Shadbala, it is more likely to deliver good results even in
challenging situations
Shadbala
1) Vedic astrology system that measures the strength of planets in a birth
chart. The word "Shadbala" means "sixfold strength".
2) Shadbala considers six factors to determine a planet's strength: positional,
directional, temporal, motional, intrinsic, and aspectual.
3) A planet with strong Shadbala is more likely to produce positive effects in a
person's life, even in challenging situations.
4) Weaker planets may need remedies.
5) Why it's important : A good estimate of the strength of the planets in a
horoscope helps to understand the real impact of various aspects and yogas.
6) Without this, one's analysis could be misleading
What does a high shadbala mean?
A strong Shadbala often indicates better success
potential, while weak planets may require remedies to
enhance their effects.
Shadbala provides a detailed analysis of planetary
strength, helping us understand how planets influence
different aspects of life and guide us toward better
decisions
In Vedic astrology
a good Shadbala score for a planet indicates that it is
strong and favorable.
A strong Shadbala can indicate better success potential.
•Strength
•If a planet's Shadbala exceeds the minimum requirement,
it is considered very strong.
•Rupas
•Each planet also needs a certain number of Rupas to be
strong. For example, Mercury needs 7 Rupas, Jupiter needs
6.5 Rupas, and Venus needs 5.5 Rupas.
What does Shadbala measure?
Shadbala measures a planet's strength in six ways,
including how well a person remembers, communicates
with, and uses the planet.
Benefits of a strong Shadbala
A strong Shadbala can help you understand how planets
influence your life and make better decisions.
“NAISARGIKA BALA”
1) Any planet Original Strength is
Naisargika Bala.
2) This needs to be added to the other
divisional charts score then we will
arrive the Required Overall Points.
3) All Planets Naisargika Bala and
Required Overall Points also shown
in the given chart
IMPLICATION
A planet situated in any one rasi i.e. sign, by itself constitutes a yoga
or an ava-yoga owing to the relationship it establishes with the rasi-
lord and other bhava-lords with reference to the Lagna and each
other, but its mere occupation need not necessarily produce the
results assigned for its such occupation.
No planet acts alone, it becomes an active participant by having
established an unavoidable relationship with one or more other
planets; its assigned results are influenced by the rasi and the vargas
gained, that is, according to the varga-wise status gained by it and the
associating planets.
The failure of the yogas to give the expected results can also be due to
the varga-wise weak status of the dispositors of the yoga-forming
planets rather than the weakness of these planets.
IMPLICATION
The Sun situated in the 9th house from the lagna but not in an
inimical sign or navamsa gives wealth, sons, friends and piety
even though it makes one antagonistic towards father and wife
and not experience happiness.
However, the Sun as the lagna-lord exalted in the 9th makes the
person and his father fortunate, have many brothers and friends,
intelligent, adept, influential and renowned; in case the exalted
Sun in the 9th is in its own navamsa or in vargottama but
aspected by a friendly planet, he will enjoy Raja yoga
“AVASTHA”
What is meant by Avastha?
Avastha is an important term in Hindu astrology. It can be
translated as “stage,” “state” or “level” and refers to the
states of the planets
What are the avasthas in astrology?
The basic planetary avasthas are
Bala, Kumara, Yuva, Vriddha and Mritya.
A planet in Bala avastha is of ¼ strength,
Kumara avastha of ½ strength,
Yuva avastha it is of full strength,
Vridhha/Mritya avastha it’s of minimum strength, it gives no result
“AVASTHA - STRENGTH
A. Signs Are Assigned Avasthas In Ascending Degree While Even
Signs Are Assigned Avasthas Are Assigned In Descending
Degree.
B. Odd Signs : Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius And Aquarius
Are Denoted By One, Thoddree, Five, Seven, Nine And Eleven
In Horoscope. Hence Are Considered Odd Signs.
C. Even Signs : Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn And
Pisces Are Denoted By Two, Four, Six, Eight, Ten And Twelve
In Horoscope. Hence They Are Considered Even Signs.
Avastha Odd Sign Even Sign Strength
D. Planetary Avasthas And Strength : For Example Sun Located Bala 0°-6° 30°-24° 25%
In Odd Sign Aries At 3°28" Will Be In Bala Avastha. But Sun In
Even Sign Cancer At 3°28" Will Be In Mrityu Avastha. Kumar 6°-12° 24°to 18° 50%
Yavvana 12°-18° 18°-12° 100%
Vriddha 18°-24° 12°-6° Negligible
Mrityu 24°-30° 6°-0° 0%
IMPLICATION
The planet which is
in Baala avastha i.e. in odd signs 0-6, in even signs 24-30 degrees gives an ascending rise
in Kumar avastha i.e. in odd signs 6-12, in even signs 18-24 degrees, much better results,
in Yuva or taruna avastha i.e. in odd signs 12-18, in even signs 12-18 degrees, gives the
strongest or best results,
in Proudha avastha i.e. in odd signs 18-24, in even signs 6-12 degrees, it becomes
incapable of doing good
in Vriddha avastha i.e. in odd signs 24-30, in even signs 0-6 degrees it gives very bad
results.[3] In Horary astrology there are two kinds of avasthas taken into account, they are
1) According To The Neutral, Friendly, Own, Moolatrikona, Exaltation, Or Debilitation Sign
Occupied And
2) - Atibaala avastha (infant), a day after combustion,
- Balya avastha (child), seven days after combustion,
- Kumara avastha (adolescent), till the planet becomes stationary,
- Yuva avastha (youth), till the commencement of retrogression,
- Bhupa avastha (royal), for period of retrogression,
- Vriddha avastha (servile), a few days before combustion, and
- Mritya avastha (death), when the planet is combust or eclipsed.
