What is TOEFL ITP Assessment
Series?
• TOEFL ITP stands for Test of English as Foreign Language - Institutional
  Testing Program.
• It is created and examined by ETS – English Testing Service, an
American Education Provider similar to British Council.
• TOEFL has other forms like iBT – Internet Based Test, iBT – Home
Edition, PBT – Paper Based Test.
• Each one of them is different so let’s just focus on ITP.
• I call it a series because it has two levels plus optional speaking
  section.

TOEFL ITP the whole series format
                                                            And optional speaking test
                                                            (however it won’t be
                                                            necessary for USAID DISP)
                                                            and according to USAID
webinar, we are taking Level 1

Now before we dive into real deal,
• I want you to learn a few principles by heart. These principles are your literal
  Bible when taking TOEFL.
• TOEFL is a standardized test. It means it has definite patterns, structures and
formats. So does the matriculation exam, not all units were important right!
• Good scores are not always defined by your general English ability ONLY,
knowing how to take the test will give you extra points.
• Knowing how to take the test includes knowing the test format inside out,
being able to manage the time effectively, knowing question types and
strategies to counter each question type, knowing what to do when you run
into a technical problem, and strictly following exam rules and Dos and
  Don’ts.

TOEFL ITP Scoring
How the tests are scored
• The TOEFL ITP® Level 1 and Level 2 section scores are determined by
the number of correct answers, which is converted to a scaled score.
The score report provides scaled scores for the Listening
Comprehension, Structure and Written Expression, and Reading
  Comprehension sections.
• Your correct answers are raw scores and those raw scores will be
converted into scaled score. We don’t need to know how they
convert. Just answer as many correct answers as possible.

TOEFL ITP Scoring
Score validity
• TOEFL ITP score reports are valid for 2 years. Because language
proficiency can change considerably in a relatively short period of time,
scores more than 2 years old cannot be reported or verified.
• For this specific scholarship program, validity doesn’t matter. Since for
this specific test, ETS is not the one examining us I believe. USAID has
  something called Teaching e-Learning Platform – tepedu.org.
• So technically this test is the same as ETS’ one but it won’t be ETS
certified. Hence, this test score report can’t be used for admission
procedure. You may need to take other language proficiency tests for
admission depending on your applied university.

Interpreting scores
CEFR mapping study
• Results of the CEFR mapping provide the minimum TOEFL ITP section scores
for four of the levels defined in the CEFR (A2, B1, B2 and C1).
• Minimum score to get to next stage is 450 – B1 level.

During the test
• Work quickly and carefully.
• Do not spend too much time on any one question.
• Try to answer every question to the best of your ability.
• Pay close attention to the time during each section. { In the Reading section you have to
pace yourself, so work quickly and if you do not know the answer to a question, come back
  to it later.
• Choose only one answer for each question. If you choose more than one answer, that
question will be counted as wrong—even if one of the answers you chose is correct.
• Your score will be based on the number of questions you answer correctly. There is no
  penalty for guessing.
• If you are taking the Speaking test, you will demonstrate your ability to speak about a
variety of topics making sure you speak clearly and coherently into a headset microphone to
record your responses to the four tasks.
