What is light ?

What scientists refer to as photons, other

people like us might just call light.

One of the four fundamental forces of

nature is electromagnetic energy and The
tiniest achievable bundle of
electromagnetic energy is called a
photon.

Photons are responsible for the speed of

light.`

Discovery of speed of light

The Speed of light is 299.792.458

meters per second, approximately
3x kilometres per second in
vacuum.

In 16th Century, Ole Romer was

the first Astronomer who
demonstrated that light travels at a
finite speed.

Later in 18th Century, James Maxwell

proposed that light was
an electromagnetic wave and,
therefore, it’s speed is Note: From labs.openai.com
approximately 300000 km per
second.

Fun Calculations

As circumference of the Earth is 40075 km. The

amount of time it takes light to travel is 40075 /
299792.458 seconds which is about 0.1337 seconds.

So, light can travel about 7.5 times the circumference

of the Earth in 1 second.

It took four and a half day to reach Apollo 11 on the

surface of moon.
But what if they travel at speed of light ? How long it
will take ?

5
Unit of
measurement

The word "light-year" may be the one you

are familiar with.

It is basically a measurement of both time

and distance, It measures the distance
that light travels in a year.

Second largest unit to measure distance.

What does it mean by sun is 8 light-

minute away ? Note: From labs.openai.com
Unrealistic Facts

Can we see the past?

Can we see the ghost?

Why do we first see the lightning in sky

and then hear the sound of ligting?

limitations

Can anything affect the fact that light

travels in a straight line ?

As speed of light is constant, can it be

slowed down?

Thank you!
