Telesis 02

Setting the IP
address
Where do we set the IP address?

We use the EIP converter part number 77918 to
communicate to the PLC. This is where we must set the IP
address and we use Telnet to do this. We do not use the
ethernet port built into the TMC470 to communicate with the
PLC.
What software do we need?

You will need to use telnet to connect to this device. The
Telesis manual states the following:

Procedure 01 – Installing Telnet can be referenced for
installing telnet in windows 10 pro.
Connecting to the EIP convertor

Disconnect from any wireless network to make sure this is
not going to interfere with this procedure.

Connect to the EIP convertor by setting your ethernet port
to the same subnet. When the converter is new the IP of
the device will be 192.168.0.254 so you can use something
like 192.168.0.200 for your PC ethernet port.

You will have to set your computer to a different subnet if
the converter was assigned to another IP address
outside of this subnet.

Connect the ethernet port on your computer to the
converter and ensure the converter is connected to the
serial port on the controller and the controller is powered
on. The picture on the second slide shows the correct port
(comm port 2).
Connecting to the EIP convertor

Ensure you can ping the IP address of the EIP converter.

Once you are able to ping the EIP converter open Telnet.

At the Telnet prompt, type: open 192.168.0.254 9999 then
press Enter. Setup mode will be displayed (see below).

Note this is for the default IP from the factory. When the
converter has another IP assigned you will have to use
that IP instead.
Changing the IP address

Select Server Configuration. At the prompt, type: 0 (zero),
then press Enter.
Changing the IP address

Enter a new IP Address for the device (in this case,
192.168.0.3), then press Enter. The device’s current
settings are shown in parentheses.
Changing the IP address

Enter the Subnet Mask, then press Enter. The device’s
current settings are shown in parentheses
Changing the IP address

If necessary, enter a Gateway IP Address, then press Enter.
(In this case, no gateway is used.) Do not change the
Serial Tunnel settings.

When we are using the machine network no gateway
should be assigned. When we use the plant network we
must assign the correct gateway. For example is the device
will be given 192.168.82.95 the gateway would be assigned
192.168.82.1.
Changing the IP address

Select Exit with Save. At the prompt, type: 9, then press
Enter.
Changing the IP address

Verify the parameters are stored, then exit the Telnet
session.
Verify

The IP assignment should now be complete.

You can verify by pinging the new address and by
connecting to the PLC.
