INTRODUCTION
It is a technique used to study the relationship
between intravesical pressure and volume in urine in
bladder
It is graphical registration of pressure changes in
urinary bladder in relation to volume of urine
collected in It
METHOD OF RECORDING
CYSTOMETROGRAM
A double lumen catheter is introduced into
urinary bladder
One lumen is used to infuse fluid into
bladder
Other one is used to record the pressure
with suitable recording instrument
Initially bladder is emptied completely
Then known quantity of fluid is introduced
into the bladder at regular intervals
Intravesical pressure developed by the fluid is
recorded continuously
A graph is obtained by plotting all values of volume
and pressure
SEGMENT OF
CYSTOMETROGRAM
Segment 1
Initially when urinary bladder is empty
Intravesical pressure is 0
When about 100 ml of fluid is collected there pressure
is rises sharply to about 10 cm H2O
Segment 2
Segment 2 shows the plateau no change in
intravesical pressure
It remains at 10 cm H2O even after introducing
300to 400 ml of fluid
It because adaptation of urinary bladder by
relaxation it is accordance with law of Laplace
Law of Laplace
According to this law pressure in spherical organ is
inversely proportional to its radius the tone remains
constant
That is if radius is more pressure is less and if radius is
less pressure is more provided the tone remains constant
P=T/R
P – pressure
T – tension
R – radius
According in bladder the tension increases urine is filled at
the same time radius also increase due to relaxation of
muscle because of this pressure dose not change the
graph show you plateau
Segment 3
As the pressure increase with collection of 300 to 400
ml of fluid contraction of detrusor muscle become
intense increasing the consciousness and urge for
micturition
Still voluntary control is possible up to 600 to 700 ml
at which rises about 35 to 40 cm H20
When intravesical pressure rises above 40 cm water
contraction of detrusor muscle become still more
intense
And voluntary control of .micturition is possible
