Branches of the Military
In many countries, the military is divided into
branches, such as the Army, Navy, Air Force,
Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. Each branch
has its own specific responsibilities and
missions.

PHILIPPINE ARMY
Mission: The Philippine Army is to “organize, train, equip,
deploy and sustain ground forces in the conduct of support to
operations to “win the peace” in order to help the Filipino
nation create an environment conducive for sustainable
development and just and lasting peace”.

PHILIPPINE NAVY

Mission: Philippine Navy is “to organize trains and equip,
deploy and maintain forces for prompt and sustained naval
and maritime operations in support of the Unified
Commands in the accomplishment of the AFP mission.”

Mission: To organize, train, equip, maintain and provide
forces in order to conduct prompt and sustained air
operations to accomplish the AFP mission.”

Mission: To provide amphibious and rapid deployment
units in order to accomplish the Philippine Navy’s
mission.

PHILIPPINE COAST GUARD

Mission: To promote safety of life and property at sea,
safeguard the marine environment and resources, enforce all
applicable laws within the Philippine waters, assist in maritime
security operations, conduct search and rescue, and perform
other activities in support of national development.

COMMISSIONED OFFICER
A commissioned officer is a member of the military or a
uniformed service who holds a commission from their
respective government or authority, granting them the
authority to command and lead troops or personnel.
Commissioned officers are typically leaders and
managers within the military hierarchy, responsible for
planning, organizing, and executing various missions and
tasks.

ENLISTED RANKS
Most military forces have a hierarchical rank
structure, which includes enlisted personnel
and officers. Ranks typically range from the
lowest (e.g., Private or Seaman) to the
highest (e.g., General or Admiral).

Basic Training
Enlisted personnel usually undergo basic training, also known
as boot camp or recruit training. This is an intensive period of
instruction that teaches military discipline, physical fitness,
and basic combat skills.

Military Code of Conduct
Most militaries have a code of conduct that outlines the ethical and
moral standards expected of service members. This includes principles
like loyalty, duty, respect, and integrity.
Code of Conduct of the Filipino Soldiers
1. I am a Filipino Soldier. I will support and defend the constitution of the
Republic of the Philippines.
2. I am a Filipino Soldier. I will fight all forces that would destroy the
freedom of the Filipino People.
3. I am a Filipino Soldier. I will obey the law, legal orders and decrees of
my lawful superiors at all times.
4. I am a Fililpino Soldier. I will fight and die in the true Filipino tradition
of valor,honor,duty and loyalty.

Uniforms and Insignia
Military personnel wear uniforms that identify their branch of
service, rank, and other important information. Insignia,
patches, and badges denote various achievements and
qualifications.

Weapons and Equipment
Military personnel are trained to use a wide range of weapons and
equipment, including firearms, vehicles, aircraft, and communication
systems.

Chain of Command
The military operates on a strict chain of command. Orders
flow from higher-ranking officers and non-commissioned
officers (NCOs) to lower-ranking personnel. Following orders
is a fundamental principle of military discipline.

Deployment
Military personnel can be deployed to various locations around
the world for combat, peacekeeping, humanitarian, or training
missions. Deployment can last for weeks, months, or even
years.

Rules of Engagement
Rules of engagement (ROE) are guidelines that dictate when
and how force can be used in combat or other military
operations. ROE are designed to minimize civilian casualties
and collateral damage.

The 11 General Orders are as follows:
1. Take charge of this post and all government property in view
2. Walk the post in a military manner, always keeping alert and observing everything that
takes place within sight or hearing
3. Report all violations of orders I am instructed to enforce
4. Repeat all calls from posts more distant from the guardhouse than my own
5. Quit the post only when properly relieved
6. Receive, obey and pass on to the sentry who relieves me all orders from the
commanding officer, officer of the day and non-commissioned officers of the guard only
7. Talk to no one except in the line of duty
8. Give the alarm in case of fire or disorder
9. Call the corporal of the guard in any case not covered by instructions
10. Salute all officers and all colors and standards not cased
11. Be especially watchful at night, and during the time for challenging, to challenge all
persons on or near my post and to allow no one to pass without proper authority.
