Key Findings
• No policies are being practised in order to protect the sandal wood or to prevent
the theft from reserved forests.
• No responsibility or accountability is levied upon the field staff for sandal theft
in forests.
• There is still no proper remedy for the spike disease that strikes the sandalwood
trees.
• The growth of sandalwood takes a longer time which is causing an imbalance in
the demand and supply of sandalwood.
• The illegal trade and sale of sandalwood fluctuates the price in global market
yielding less revenues to the authentic cultivators.
• The sandalwood plantation owners of the states of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and
Andhra Pradesh still follow a rigidity regarding growing sandalwood which is
hampering the market.
