Error Checking
Methods
CAIE Syllabus:
How Errors occur during the
transmission of the data?
There is always a risk of may be the data is corrupted or lost during the
process of transmitting it from one place to another.
Errors can occur when transmitting and storing data. This is because
the channels that are used to transmit the data can be subjected to
disturbance.
Consequences of errors during the
transmission of the data
These errors can lead to inaccuracies in the data and make the data
unreliable.
This is something that we want to avoid, so we use methods of error
detection and error correction to increase the accuracy and reliability
of the data.
Methods of Error Detection:
Parity Check:
If two of the bits change value following the
data transmission it may be impossible to
locate the error using parity checking method.
Even though the byte has been corrupted
during the data transmission but have retained
the even parity.
Drawback of using Even / Odd parity

way to check data
