Inverse Functions Tuesday 9 July 2024

OBJECTIVES:
9As.03 Understand that a function is a relationship
where each input has a single output. Generate
outputs from a given function and identify inputs from
a given output by considering inverse operations
(including indices).

9As.04 Understand that a situation can be

represented either in words or as a linear function in
two variables (of the form y = mx + c or ax + by = c),
and move between the two representations.

We find the inverse function by

putting the original function equal to and
rearranging to make the subject.

We use the notation for the inverse function.

“times 5” “divide by 5”

“times 4, add 2” “subtract 2, divide by 4”

Plenary Guidance on the use of codes within this

mark scheme
Work with a partner to create an M1 – method mark for appropriate method in
exam style question on inverse the context of the question
functions. A1 – accuracy mark
B1 – Working mark
Try to use the codes that would be C1 – communication mark
used in a GCSE mark scheme when QWC – quality of written communication
oe – or equivalent
you include your answers.
cao – correct answer only
ft – follow through
Once finished, fold in half so the mark sc – special case
scheme is hidden, and swap with dep – dependent (on a previous mark or
another pair. conclusion)
indep – independent
Answer the new question with your isw – ignore subsequent working
partner then unfold the page to mark
it using the markscheme.
