TEST PROCEDURES:
Measure accurately the length of the specimen and determine its
1. weight.
2. Measure its deformations.
5 Presentation title 20XX
AVERAGE SPACING
• The average height of deformations shall
be determined from measurements made on
not less than two typical deformations.
• Determinations shall be based on three
measurements per deformation, one at the
center of the overall length and the other
two at the quarter points of the overall
length.
AVERAGE HEIGHT
• The average spacing of deformations shall
be determined by measuring the length of
a minimum of 10 spaces and dividing that
length by the number of spaces included in
the measurement.
• The measurement shall begin from a point
on a deformation at the beginning of the
first space to a corresponding point on a
deformation after the last included space
GAP
The average gap of deformations shall be
determined by measuring 4 measurements on
each gap and dividing by the number of
measurements included.
The value of gap is the summation of two gaps.

TEST PROCEDURES:
Mark in the center of the test specimen a 200 mm or 8 inches gage
3. length.
Set suitable grips in the Universal Testing Machine to hold the
4. specimens and apply the load until rupture at a uniform rate..
10 Presentation title 20XX
TEST PROCEDURES:
Note the load at sudden halt of the load indicating pointer and
5. record the corresponding stress as a yield point as well as the
maximum load attained by the test specimen until rupture.
After fracture, fit the ends of the fractured specimen together
6. carefully and measure the distance between the gage marks for the
determination of its percent elongation.

COMPUTATIONS:
TENSILE STRENGTH YIELD STRENGTH
Where: Where:
Ts = Tensile Strength Ys = Yield Strength
P = Maximum Load the specimen sustains during P = Load sustained by the specimen at a sudden
the test halt of the load
A = Nominal cross-sectional area of the specimen A = Nominal cross-sectional area of the specimen

COMPUTATIONS:
ELONGATION VARIATION IN MASS
Where: Where:
E = Elongation in % V = Variation in Mass in %
L2 = Final length after elongation M2 = Actual mass of specimen in kg
L1 = Original gage length M1 = Nominal mass of the specimen in kg (from
table)

APPARATUS/EQUIPMENTS TO BE
USED:
UNIVERSAL PIN
TESTING
MACHINE
TEST PROCEDURES:
Place the specimen in the bend test apparatus in such position that
1. the place intersecting the longitudinal rib is parallel to the axis of
the pin.
Apply force to the specimen continuously and uniformly
2. throughout the bending operation.
17 Presentation title 20XX
TEST PROCEDURES:
Discontinue the application of force when the angle of bend
3. specified in the material specification has been achieved before
rebound.
4. Examine the tension surface of the specimen for cracking.
18 Presentation title 20XX
ACCEPTANCE AND
REJECTION:
Insufficient height, insufficient circumferential coverage, or
1. excessive spacing of deformations shall not constitute cause for
rejection.
No rejection shall be made on the basis of measurements if fewer
2. than ten adjacent deformations of each side of the bar are
measured.
19 Presentation title 20XX
ACCEPTANCE AND
REJECTION:
In no case shall overweight ( excess mass ) of any deformed barbe
3. the cause for rejection
20 Presentation title 20XX
RETEST:
If any tensile property of any tension test specimen is less than that specified,
and any part of the fracture is outside the middle third of the gage length, as
1. indicated by scribe scratches marked on the specimen after testing, a retest shall
be allowed.
If the results of an original tension specimen fail to meet the specified minimum requirements and
are within 14 MPa ( 2000 psi ) of the required tensile strength, within 7 MPa ( 1000 psi ) of the
2. required yield point, or within two percentage units of the required elongation, a retest shall be
permitted on two random specimens for each original tension specimen failure from the lot. Both
retest specimens shall meet the requirements of the specification.
21 Presentation title 20XX
RETEST:
If a weight ( mass ) test fails for reasons other than flaws in the specimen, a
3. retest shall be permitted on two random specimens from the same lot. Both
retest specimens shall meet the requirements of the specification.
