INFUSING INFUSING
EDUCATION INTO OR CULTURE INTO
CULTURE? EDUCATION?
“One of the reasons Indian Children experience difficulty
in schools is that educators traditionally have attempted
to insert culture into education instead of inserting
education into culture.”

-Dr. Cornel Pewewardy

As a result, learners tend to split themselves
between two identity identities.
Bicultural Education

of, relating to or including to two distinct cultures

-using or able to use two languages with equal fluency

Are you necessarily bicultural if

you are bilingual?
Bilinguals are not necessarily bicultural but bilinguals
develop to be bicultural.
BICULTURAL EDUCATION

• synonym of bilingual education
• its purpose is to produce learners who have the
competencies and can operate in two different
cultures.
CROSS-CULTURAL EDUCATION

Frost 2010)
• a reciprocal process of learning and adjustment that
occurs when individuals sojourn for educational
purposes in a society that is culturally foreign to them
(Smith 1956)
INTERCULTURAL EDUCATION
• deals with the educational process from the vision of
cultural diversity and is focused on the phenomenon
of cultural interaction (people, cultures, religions,
speakers of different languages, people who have
different views and opinions)
INTERCULTURAL EDUCATION
• the development of intercultural competence
(Appropriateness, Valued rules, norms, and
expectations of the relationship are not violated
significantly)

• about developing an understanding of and valuing

others
Give an example of a holiday you celebrate
despite it not being associated with your
culture /religion.

Why do we participate in this kind of

celebration?

National security strengthens social
integration and synergy through
attention to the importance and
political influence of ethnic and
cultural diversity
CULTURAL PLURALISM

larger society maintain their unique cultural
identities whereby their values and practice are

aspects of the culture and identity of each individual in the
learning and achievement of self concept affect the system of
beliefs, values, attitudes, expectations, social relations, and the
language which they use to become more effective.
On Globalization and Training Requirements

The goal, contents, methods, and types of educational

relations are affected by the impacts of contemporary
development in the areas of economic, social, and cultural
rights.

The educational system needs to be dynamic and

efficient to comply with the new requirements needed
today more than ever.

determine what kind of policies and program that can be
adopted or possible way to change traditional strategies.
