Using Electricity
Importance of Electricity
Electricity plays an important role in the
progress of any country. The power it generates
drives and operates home appliances, office
machines, computers and other entertainment
gadgets, transportation, and communication
facilities. It makes our daily life activities easy and
convenient.
Types of
Electricity
1. Static electricity
is electricity at rest,
or one that is not in
motion.
2. Dynamic electricity
is moving and is also known as
electric current. This is the type of
electricity that we use daily at home,
in school, at the office, and other
work stations.
2 types of current are as follows:
Direct current (DC) Alternating current (AC)

induction.
Materials and
Tools in
Electricity
1. Bulbs
are made of glass that
contains inert gas and fitted
into a lamp or ceiling socket
to provide light when an
electric current is passed
through it.
2. Electrical wires
are cords containing
thin metallic fibers where
electricity passes. Solid wire,
flat, and heater cord are some
of the types of wire classified
according to make, size, and
insulation.
3. Fuse
is a device that serves
as an automatic switch to turn
on or switch off the current. It
is used to regulate the amperes
that flow through the electric
circuit and avoid overheating
of the wire.
4. Plug
is an electrical device
used in all electrical
appliances to connect them to
an outlet. It contains insulated
casing with metal pins that fit
into holes in a socket or outlet
to make an electrical
connection. It is made of
rubber or bake lite material.
5. Socket
holds or receives a
plug or light bulb to make a
connection. It is made of
various materials like bake
lite, brass, porcelain, or
rubber.
6. Switches
are used to connect or
disconnect an electric circuit.
Kinds include push-button
switch, snap switch, single- or
double-throw knife switch that
are all available in the market.
Tools in
Electricity
1. Pliers

used for
holding wires.
2. Screwdriver
used for
turning and
removing
screws.
3. Cutter

used in cutting
wires
4. Ammeter
used for
measuring
electric current
in amperes
5. Voltmeter
used for
measuring
electrical
potential in
volts
6. Continuity Tester
used for
testing
electrical
devices or
appliances
7. Multitester
used to
measure
different
magnitudes of
electrical units
8. Electrical Tape

used for
wrapping wires
9. Hand and Electric Drill

used to bore
a hole.
6. Switches
are used to connect or
disconnect an electric circuit.
Kinds include push-button
switch, snap switch, single- or
double-throw knife switch that
are all available in the market.
General tool usage
and safety
procedures:
General tool usage and safety
procedures:
1. Always be focused on your task.

2. Use the right tool for the job.

3. Wear the appropriate personal protective

equipment (PPE).
General tool usage and safety
procedures:
4. Read and understand instructions and directions
on how to use and maintain tools.

5. Review safety procedures to learn the hazards

associated with a specific tool.
General tool usage and safety
procedures:
6. Inspect the condition of the tool before each use.

7. Make sure the work area is clean, organized, and

properly lit.
General tool usage and safety
procedures:
8. Make sure the floor is clean and dry to prevent slips or
falls.

9. Do not distract others while they are using a tool.

10. Clean the tool after use and return it to its proper place.
Electrical Circuit
Electrical Circuit
is a system of parts and is made
when electrical energy from one or
more sources flow along a complete
path.
SERIES Circuit
Series Circuit
is one wherein devices are connected so
that there is only one path for the electric current.
Since the bulbs are connected one after the other
in the series circuit, when one bulb is shut off, all
bulbs will not work.
PARALLEL Circuit
Parallel Circuit
is when the bulbs are connected side by
side in a circuit. Thus, when one bulb is shut
off, the other bulbs will still light up.
