Newborn care provided to the


newborn from the time of birth to about
the first month of life is known as the
NEWBORN CARE.

IMMEDIATE NEWBORN CARE

Care of the baby that needs to be


given at birth in the labor room.
10 STPES OF IMMEDIATE NEWBORN CARE

1. Call out the time of birth.


2. Delivery baby in warm, clean, dry towel/ Mother
chest.
3. Clamp and cut umbilical cord.
4. Immediately dry baby and wipe the eyes.
5. Assess the baby's breathing.
6. Wipe each eyes seperately with sterile gauze.
7. Leave baby between Mother's breast.(skin-to-skin
contact)
8. Place ID label.
9. Cover baby head with cap,cover both baby and
mother.
10.Encourage to breast feed.
ESSENTIAL NEWBORN CARE

Care of the baby that needs to be


given in the postnatal ward and after
discharge at home.

Nursing care of healthy newborn


baby after birth should be provided as
immediate care of the neonate and daily
routine care.
