DRUG MENACE
Drug addiction

also called substance use disorder, is a disease that


affects a person's brain and behavior and leads to an
inability to control the use of a legal or illegal drug or
medicine. Substances such as alcohol, marijuana and
nicotine also are considered drugs. When you're addicted,
you may continue using the drug despite the harm it
causes.

DRUG MENACE/DRUG ADDICTION


EFFECTS OF DRUGS ABUSE

Increased strain on the liver, which puts the person at risk


of significant liver damage or liver failure. Seizures, stroke,
mental confusion and brain damage. Lung disease.
Problems with memory, attention and decision-making,
which make daily living more difficult.

signed on June 7, 2002 and took


effect on July 4, 2002.

Declaration of Policy
( Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of
2002 )
It is the policy of the State to safeguard the integrity of its territory and
the well being of its citizenry particularly the youth, from the harmful
effects of dangerous drugs on their physical and mental well-being,
and to defend the same against acts or omissions detrimental to their
development and preservation.

Possession, under the law, includes, not only
actual possession, but also constructive
possession-

Actual possession exists when the


drug is in the immediate physical possession
or control of the accused,

and Constructive possession exists when the


drug is under the dominion and control of the
accused or when he has the right to exercise
dominion and control over the place where it
is found.

Use of Dangerous Drugs
A person apprehended or arrested found to be positive for use of any dangerous
drug
After a confirmatory test.

SHALL BE IMPOSED A PENALTY OF A MINIMUM OF


6 MONTHS REHABILITATION IN ANY GOVERNMENT/ACCREDITED
CENTER FOR THE FIRST OFFENSE

FOR SECOND TIME VIOLATION – IMPRISONMENT, 6 YEARS AND 1 DAY


TO 12 YEARS PLUS FINE, 50K TO 200K

o Stimulants – Also known as “UPPERS”

Any of a group of drugs that excite the central nervous system,


in which increase alertness, alleviate fatigue, reduce hunger and
provide a feeling of well being.

Ex. (Amphetamine) Shabu

Immediate Effects:

✓Increase in blood pressure / Heart
rate / Breathing rate / Body
Temperature
✓Involuntary muscle twitching
✓A sense of well being
✓Feels energetic/alert
✓Less hunger

PHARMACOLOGICAL
CLASSIFICATION OF DRUGS

oDepressants – Also known as “Downers” or “Barbs”


Any drug or chemical that decreases the activity of any
bodily function. The term most often is used to refer to
drugs that reduce the activity of the central nervous system.

Ex. SEDATIVES, SLEEPING PILLS TRANQUILIZERS,


OPIUM, HEROIN, KETAMINE, ALCOHOL“RUGBY”
SHOCKING previously unseen
photos have revealed the extent of
Michael Jackson's drug abuse -
showing multiple needle marks
covering his legs.

Jackson was taking a combination of painkillers


when he died on June 25 and had been
regularly using the drugs since he burned his
hair during the filming of a Pepsi advert in 1984.

Initial investigation has pinpointed the


anesthesic Propofol as the primary cause of his
unexpected demise. Vials of Propofol were
found in Jackson's home after he died.

oHallucinogens – Also known as “PSYCHEDELICS”

⮚Any one of a large number of natural or synthetic psychoactive drugs


that produce marked distortions of the senses and changes in perception.
Drugs capable of provoking changes in sensation, thinking, self-

hallucination.
