DISEASES ASSOCIATED

WITH THE VARIOUS

ORGAN SYSTEMS
A PRESENTATION BY GROUP 2 FOR EARTH & LIFE SCIENCE
URINARY SYSTEM
KIDNEY STONES
Kidney stones (also called renal calculi,
nephrolithiasis or urolithiasis) are hard
deposits made of minerals and salts that
form inside your kidneys. Diet, excess
body weight, some medical conditions,
and certain supplements and
medications are among the many
causes of kidney stones.
RESPIRATORY SYSTEM
ASTHMA
Asthma is a condition in which your
airways narrow and swell and may
produce extra mucus. This can make
breathing difficult and trigger coughing,
a whistling sound (wheezing) when you
breathe out and shortness of breath. For
some people, asthma is a minor
nuisance.
NERVOUS SYSTEM
EPILEPSY
sometimes called a seizure disorder, is
a disorder of the brain. A person is
diagnosed with epilepsy when they
have had two or more seizures. A
seizure is a short change in normal
brain activity. Seizures are the main
sign of epilepsy. Some seizures can
look like staring spells.
CIRCULATORY SYSTEM
HEART FAILURE
the heart is unable to pump blood
around the body properly. It usually
happens because the heart has become
too weak or stiff. It's sometimes called
congestive heart failure, although this
name is not widely used now. Heart
failure does not mean your heart has
stopped working.
ENDOCRINE SYSTEM
ACROMEGALY
a rare condition where the body produces
too much growth hormone, causing body
tissues and bones to grow more quickly.
Over time, this leads to abnormally large
hands and feet, and a wide range of other
symptoms. Acromegaly is usually
diagnosed in adults aged 30 to 50, but it
can affect people of any age.
MUSCULAR SYSTEM
FIBROMYALGIA
a chronic (long-lasting) disorder that
causes pain and tenderness throughout
the body, as well as fatigue and
trouble sleeping. Scientists do not
fully understand what causes it, but
people with the disorder have a
heightened sensitivity to pain.
SKELETAL SYSTEM
EWING SARCOMA
a type of tumor that forms from a
certain kind of cell in bone or soft
tissue. Undifferentiated small
round cell sarcoma may also form
in the bone or soft tissue. Signs and
symptoms of Ewing sarcoma
include swelling and pain near the
tumor.
DIGESTIVE SYSTEM
STOMACH ULCERS (GASTRIC
ULCERS)
are open sores that develop on the
lining of the stomach. Ulcers can also
occur in part of the intestine just
beyond the stomach. These are called
duodenal ulcers. Stomach and
duodenal ulcers are sometimes called
peptic ulcers.
