• A simple mathematical formula to estimate the probable error, by taking only one set of readings,
is the Root Sum Squares (RSS) formula.
• If a parameter N is a function of other parameters u1, u2, …, un, N is computed by measuring u1,
u2, …, un, and each measurement of u1, u2,…, un has a certain degree of error or uncertainty; the
overall error, in the computed value of N, ERSS is given by
