Temperature Conversion Guide

This document provides information about converting between the Fahrenheit and Celsius temperature scales. It defines the Fahrenheit scale as having a freezing point of 32 degrees and boiling point of 212 degrees. The Celsius scale is defined as having a freezing point of 0 degrees and boiling point of 100 degrees. Formulas are provided to convert between the two scales, along with examples of conversions. Several practice problems are included at the end to convert temperatures between Fahrenheit and Celsius.

CONVERSION

OF
TEMPERATURE
FAHRENHEIT
Fahrenheit.[(fair-uhn-heyet)]
A temperature scale, used primarily in the
United States, in which the freezing point
of water is 32 degrees and the boiling point
212 degrees. Temperatures in this scale are
denoted by °F or, in scientific usage, F
alone.
CELSIUS
Celsius. [sĕl′sē-əs, -shəs] Of or
relating to a temperature scale that
registers the freezing point of water
as 0° and the boiling point as 100°
under normal atmospheric pressure.
FAHRENHEIT TO CELSIUS

C = 5/9 (F-32)

EXAMPLE: 204.8 °F to °C
C=5/9 (204.8-32)

C= 5/9 (172.8)

=5(172.8)= 864

864/9=96
Therefore, 204.8 °F = 96 °C
1) 102° F
2) 37° F
3) 200° F
4) 175° F
5) 185° F
6) 158° F
7) 68° F
8) One day the minimum temperature in Bombay was
recorded as 80.6° F. What was the temperature in
degree Celsius of Bombay on that day?
CELSIUS TO FAHRENHEIT

F= 9/5 C + 32

EXAMPLE: 40 °C to F
F= 9/5 (40) + 32

F= 360/5 + 32

F= 72 + 32

F= 104

Therefore, 40 °C = 104 °F
1)25° C
2)45° C
3)0° C
4)20° C
5)90° C
6)40.3° C
7)65° C
8)In the month June, on one day the maximum temperature
in Delhi was recorded as 42.4° C. Convert it into degree
Fahrenheit.
ASSIGNMENT:
1) 80 °F
2) 98.6 °F
3) 212 °F
4) 74 °F
5) 100 °F
6) 21 °C
7) 100 °C
8) 3.89 °C
9) 37 °C
10) 10 °C
