Speed and Agility in Sports Training

Speed and agility are important components of sports that require training. Speed is the ability to perform a movement quickly, while agility is the ability to rapidly change body position and direction using balance, coordination, speed, strength and endurance. The document describes the 40-meter sprint test to measure running speed and the hexagon agility test to measure the body's ability to move in different directions quickly. It provides the purpose, equipment needed, and procedures for administering and scoring each test.

Speed and Agility are two major components of sports that need to be trained just like
strength, size, and power are developed in the weight room. It is true that no matter what
genetic disposition for speed and agility may be, you can enhanced these qualities to some
degree with proper training.
SPEED

seconds
Scoring
- record time in nearest minutes and seconds.
AGILITY
-is the ability to move in different directions quickly using a combination of balance, coordination, speed, strength and endurance.

- is the ability to rapidly change the position and direction of the body or body parts (maneuverability of body).
Hexagon Agility Test
Purpose – to measure the ability of the body to move in different
directions quickly.

Equipment: Tape measure, stopwatch, chalk or masking tape (1

inch width)

Hexagon size: length-24 inches (60.5 cm) Each angle – 120 degrees
Option: (16 inches – Elem. / 20 inches –Sec. )
