IMPLEMENT MAINTENANCE
PROCEDURE
Determine hardware and software maintenance

BY :- ABDIFETAH EID
Understanding Electricity, Electronic devices, and Technician tools

05/26/2022
 The four basic units of electricity are
 Voltage (V)

by :- Abdifetah Eid
 Current (I)

 Power (P)

 Resistance (R)

2
05/26/2022
 Voltage is a measure of the force required to push
electrons through a circuit. Voltage is measured in volts
(V). A computer power supply usually produces several

by :- Abdifetah Eid
different voltages.
 Current is a measure of the number of electrons going
through a circuit. Current is measured in amperes, or
amps (A). Computer power supplies deliver different
amperages for each output voltage.

3
 Power is a measure of the pressure required to push

05/26/2022
electrons through a circuit, called voltage, multiplied by
the number of electrons going through that circuit, called
cur-rent. The measurement is called watts (W).

by :- Abdifetah Eid
Computer power supplies are rated in watts.
 Resistance is the opposition to the flow of current in a
circuit. Resistance is measured in ohms. Lower
resistance allows more current, and therefore more
power, to flow through a circuit. A good fuse has low
resistance or a measurement of almost 0 ohms.

4
05/26/2022
 Transistor A transistor regulates current or voltage flow
and acts as a switch or gate for electronic signals.

by :- Abdifetah Eid
 Diode a diode is a specialized electronic component with
two electrodes called the anode and the cathode. Most
diodes are made with semiconductor materials. The
fundamental property of a diode is its tendency to
conduct electric current in only one direction.

5
GENERAL SAFETY GUIDELINES:
 Follow the basic safety guidelines to prevent cuts, burns,
electrical shock, and damage to eyesight. As a best practice

05/26/2022
here are some general safety guidelines:
 Remove your watch or any other jewelry and secure loose

by :- Abdifetah Eid
clothing.
 Turn off the power and unplug equipment before opening the
case and performing service.
 Cover any sharp edges inside the computer case with tape.

 Never open a power supply or a monitor.

 Do not touch areas in printers that are hot or use high voltage.

6
 Know where the fire extinguisher is located and how to
use it.

05/26/2022
 Know where the first aid kit is located.

 Keep food and drinks out of your workspace.

by :- Abdifetah Eid
 Keep your workspace clean and free of clutter.

 Lift heavy objects with your legs to avoid back injury.

 Warning

 Power supplies and monitors contain very high voltage.

Do not wear the antistatic wrist strap when replacing
power supplies or monitors.

7
Identify Safety Procedures to Protect Equipment from
Damage and Data from Loss

05/26/2022
 Static electricity is the buildup of an electric charge
resting on a surface. This buildup and sudden release of
energy, called electrostatic discharge (ESD), can be

by :- Abdifetah Eid
destructive to the electronics in a computer system.
 ESD Protection Recommendations

 ESD can cause permanent damage to electrical

components. Follow these recommendations to help
prevent ESD damage:

8
 Keep all components in antistatic bags until you are ready to install
them.

05/26/2022
 Use grounded mats on workbenches and on the work area floor.
 Use antistatic wrist straps when working on computers.
 Avoid working on carpeted areas if possible.

by :- Abdifetah Eid
 Climate also affects risks when working with computer equipment.
Consider the following
 recommendations:
 If the environment temperature is too high, equipment can overheat.
 If the humidity level is too low, the chance of ESD increases.
 If the humidity level is too high, equipment can suffer from moisture
damage.
