SOMA MASTER
PLAN BANGALORE
PROJECT DETAILS :-
Site Area:- 87 acres
Architectural Style:- Green Eco Master
Plan
Project Status:- 2008-Going on
Building Type:- Residential and mixed
use development
● This eco-masterplan for a middle-class suburb accommodates
luxury villas, low- and high-rise condominiums, retail hub, urban
centre, infrastructure and open space.
● It involves four colour-coded strands of thinking.
● The ‘green’ eco-infrastructure concerns open spaces which occupy
18% of the site, weaving across bridges and through tunnels to
maximizes connectivity and biodiversity.
● The ‘red’ eco-infrastructure concerns the human community, who
enjoy enhanced access to green areas, buildings in harmony with
Vastu Shastra principles, and an average 7 minutes’ walk from
residences to amenities.
● The ‘grey’ eco-infrastructure involves clean technologies such as
low-energy/passive building designs.
● The ‘blue’ eco-infrastructure is the sustainable water management
system.

Design Features & Land Use
● Balanced Development
● Public Spaces are well located.
● Different areas and land uses have
distinct characteristics yet
integrated harmoniously.
● Sun,shade and shadow of buildings
has been considered.
● Site and building services well
distributed.
OPEN SPACES
HIERARCHY AND
DISTRIBUTION
● Ecological Corridor -15% of the open spaces.
● Primary Spaces(marked in yellow) Central
Open Spaces-active sports field-terraced to suit
the different space definition for different field
sport types(part of the 15% open space
provision.
● Secondary- Residential open spaces-children’s
playfields and passive recreation(part of the
15% space provision)
● Tertiary- This hierarchy of open spaces are
located on rooftops and aerial bridge
connections between buildings and rooftops.
They are not the part of the 15% open space
provision.
The green eco-infrastructure
The green eco infrastructure
provides to the project as
well as enhancing the
ecological biodiversity of the
development.
DRAINAGE PLAN
The blue eco -engineering / eco-infrastructure
This is the down-pipes water management
system. The water cycle is designed to be as
closed as possible with re-use and recycling
of ‘grey’ water and the harvesting of rainwater.
The drainage is designed to be sustainable
using bioswales, filtrations stripes and
detention ponds to bring the man-harvested
surface water to recharge the groundwater
LANDSCAPING OF THE SITE
The landscaping of the site has been done
with various colors of trees and flowers, the
architect has tried to follow a color scale and
might have made an attempt to use color
psychology with the use of the spaces.
T1 :- NORTHEASTERN SECTOR TO BE THE LOWEST
FLOWERING BED OF THE SMALLEST LOW ORDER.
T2 :- EASTERN AND NORTHERN SECTORS
RELATIVELY HIGHER THAN T1 FOUNTAINS AND
WATER.
T3 :- NORTH AND NORTHWESTERN SECTOR HIGHER
THAN T2.
T4:- SOUTHEAST AND SOUTHERN SECTORS WEST
AND NORTHWEST SECTORS TALLER TREES THAN
T3
T5:- SOUTHWESTERN SECTOR TO BE THE HIGHEST
TREES ORDER
ROAD CONNECTIVITY OF THE
SITE AND PLATFORMS
● THE IMAGE SHOWS THE ROAD
CONNECTIVITY OF THE AREA AND
PLATFORMS OR PICK UP OR DROP
OFF POINTS OF THE SITE.
● IT ALSO INCLUDES THE ACCESS
ROADS FOR EMERGENCY
VEHICLES.
The placement of security cabins has been done
strategically and different spaces have different
level of security. The ease of guarding has been
kept in mind. They managed to provide clear
sightlines from each security cabin, trying to
eliminate corners or uncomfortable spaces.
Yellow- Low Level of Security
Blue-Medium Level Security
Orange- High Level of Security
Peach-Medium to High level of security
Red Dots- Security Cabin
POSITIVE VIEWS FROM THE SITE
The architect has managed to use the views
from the site and has made an attempt to
provide the users a view from the building.
The red eco-infrastructure The design seeks
to encourage a sustainable lifestyle for the
users. The physical development is designed
around the green corridor & green spaces to
enhance the community’s access to green
areas,social connectivity, and a pleasurable
and healthy lifestyle. This master plan is
designed to harmonize with the Vashtu
Shastra principles for the site with a water
