Objective
 At the end of this unit, students will be to:

 Differentiate between Manual & Mechanical


cleaning equipments.

 Clean and Maintain different equipments .

 Identity the correct usage of equipments on


different surfaces.
Manual Equipments
 Includes all type of equipments that clean or
aid in cleaning process by directly using
maneuver, operation and energy of
employees.
 Brooms

 Hard Brooms Soft Brooms Nylon Brooms


Types Of Brooms
 Hard Brooms :- Its used on wet surfaces and
dry.
 Soft Brooms :- It used on dry surfaces only.
 Nylon Brooms :- Its used on wet surfaces as
well as dry surfaces.
Care & Cleaning Of Brooms
 They should be shaken free of dust, dirt and
fluff.
 They should never be stored in standing

position, as the bristles would be damaged


resulting in inefficient cleaning.
 Brooms that can be used on wet surfaces

must be cleaned thoroughly in saline water


and dried in the sun .
Different Brushes & Areas Of Usage
Type of Brush Area of Usage
Toilet Brushes These are WC brushes, radiator
brushes and Johnny Mops.
Bottle Brushes There are used or cleaning overflow
vents in wash basins and tubs.
Carpet Brushes Carpet brushes are used for
brushing carpets.
Upholstery Brushes There are used to loosen out dust
embedded between the fabric fibers
in upholstered chairs and sofas.
Feather Brushes These are brushes with feather for
light dusting.
Hearth Brush These are used for cleaning heavy
soiling and removing ash out of
fireplaces.
Flue Brush These are used for cleaning
chimneys.
Containers
 These are the equipments used in the Housekeeping
department that carries, transport, collect and store
supplies and other items.
 Types of Containers :-
 Buckets
 Basins & Bowls
 Dustpans
 Dustbins
 Sani-Bins
 Caddy box
 Carts & Trolleys
 Janitors Trolley
Maids Trolley
 Also know as room attendant trolley.
 It contains all the guest amenities and room

supplies.
 Its seen in public areas refilling all the room

supplies & guest amenities.


 It needs to be well stocked before starting up

the daily shifts.


Mops
Wet & Damp Mops
Types of Damp Mops
 Do All Mops: These mops consist of strains twisted

cotton fixed to a circular metal plate which intern is


fixed through a stock.
 Kentucky Mops: These mops are made of cotton

strands fixed to a length of cotton fabric, which is


intern in certain into a flat metal stock.
 Sponge Mops: These consists of cellulose, sponge

fix to a replicable lower controlled head hinged for


ringing out and attached to a long head.
 Squeeze Mops: it consists of a long metallic handle

and a wooden or a rubber blade to remove access


water from surface being cleaned.
Dusters
 Cotton Duster

 Flennel Duster

Swabs & Wipes
◦ Swabs and Wipes:

◦ All Purpose Cloth made from soft and absorbent material


they are used for wet and damp dusting and used for
cleaning sanitary fittings.
Floor Cloth
◦ Floor Cloth: are bigger thicker made of
coarser material.

◦ They are used to wipe floor spills and WC’s.


Scrim

◦ Is a loosely woven linen material.


◦ It’s a high absorbency it replaces chamois
leather for cleaning mirrors & windows.

◦ Rags & Polishing Cloth:


◦ Are cloths used for applying polish or strong
cleaning agent.
Chamois Leather
 Is made up of goat antelope.
 These are usually skivers that is split

sheepskin.
 It can be used for wet cleaning of windows

and mirrors.
 When dry it can be used as a polishing cloth

for silver and metals.


Protective Cloth
 Dust Sheets: are made of thin cotton material,
a size of single sheet. Used sheets or
discarded linen.
 Druggets: Made up of coarse linen, fine

canvas or clear plastic. Its placed on the floor


in doorways to prevent excessive dirt.
 Hearth & Bucket Cloth: are made of thick

fabrics used for protecting the carpet, or the


flooring from marks.
Mechanical Equipments
 Are any types of equipments used in the
Housekeeping department that is powered by
electricity or gas.
 Staff needs to be well trained as these can

cause hazardous situations and inefficient


cleaning.
