PLATES
ASIAN DYNAMIC COMPRESSION PLATING
• 3.5mm stainless steel plate, implant
of choice for fracture of forearm.
• It can be used in dynamic
compression or neutralization mode
of fracture of fixation.
BROAD DYNAMIC COMPRESSION PLATE
• 4.5 mm dynamic compression plating,
is used for fixing fractures of humerus,
femur and tibia.
• Staggered screw holes increase distance
between successive screws and decrease
the likelihood of fissuring the bone
longitudinally.
DYNAMIC HIP PLATE AND SCREW
• Used for fixation of intertrochanteric fractures .
• Allows controlled dynamic sliding of screw in femoral head along the
construct
L BUTTRESS PLATE
• Designed as buttress plates for
lateral tibial plateau fractures.
• More buttressing effect without
getting in the way of proximal
fibula.
NARROW DYNAMIC COMPRESSION
• Neutralization and tension band
plates for fractures of tibia and
humerus.
• 4.5 mm holed system with linear
screws.
RECON PLATES
• 3.5 mm screw system, mainly used for acetabulum and distal humerus
fractures.
• Can be bent in all three directions.
T BUTTRESS PLATE
• Used for medial or lateral tibial plateau fractures and proximal humerus
fractures.
• Supports the cortex of metaphysis from crumbling or displacing by
applying axial compression.

K WIRE
• Come in different sizes,
used to hold bone
fragments together or to
provide temporary
fixation during some
surgeries.
• Forms part of Ilizarov
ring fixators, tension
band wiring.
SCREWS
CANCELLOUS SCREWS
• Fixation of cancellous bone, used
most commonly in metaphysis of
long bones.
• More deeply cut and widely
spaced thread and has self
tapping tip.
CORTICAL SCREWS
• Stronger than cancellous
screws of the same outer
diameter.
• Used for fixation in
diaphysis of long bones.
PEDICLE SCREWS
• Connecting vertebrae to rods
in spinal surgery.
• Traverse all three columns of
vertebrae so they can rigidly
stabilize both the dorsal and
ventral aspects of the spine.
PROSTHESIS
AUSTIN MOORE PROSTHESIS
• Unipolar hip prosthesis – single
mould design.
• Usually used without
cementation (bone grows
through the fenestrations).
• Collar is more transverse
BIPOLAR PROSTHESIS
• Bipolar single mould design
• Bipolar prosthesis helps to
reduce erosion and protrusion
of acetabulum because motion
is present between metal head
and polyethylene socket (inner
bearing) as well as between
metallic cup and acetabulum,
since cup is not fixed in bone.
THOMPSON PROSTHESIS
• Unipolar hemiarthroplasty
prosthesis (single mould
design).
• No fenestrations so mainly
used in cemented
arthroplasty.
• More vertical collar/calcar
bearing prosthesis.
