Established by the virtue of Presidential
Proclamation No. 1001 s.1972
WHAT IS IT ?
Aims “to give appropriate recognition and
prestige to Filipinos who have distinguished
themselves and made outstanding
contributions to the Philippine arts and
letters”
WHAT IS IT ?
The Order of the National Artists is the
highest award conferred by the President of
the Philippines to the nation’s artists

7 categories: Music, dance, theatre, visual


arts, literature, film and broadcast,
architecture and allied arts
WHAT IS IT ?
Administered by the Order of the National
Artists Secretariat

Conferred by the President every three


years
WHAT ARE THE CRITERIA TO
BECOME ONE ?
To qualify, the National Artists must have the
following criteria:
Filipino citizens at the time of the
nomination
Contributed in building a Filipino sense of
nationhood
Pioneered a mode of creative expression or
style
WHAT ARE THE CRITERIA TO
BECOME ONE ?
To qualify, the National Artists must have the
following criteria:
Created a substantial and significant body of
work
Accepted through:
a. Prestigious national or international
recognition;
Examples: CCP Gawad Para sa Sining, CCP 13 Artists
Award, NCAA Alab ng Haraya
