                                                                                                   ucts like concrete and clay. However, when pipe has
                                                                                                   the ability to deflect without cracking, this produces
                                                                                                   a situation that allows the central prism of soil
                                                                                                   (directly over the pipe) to settle more in relation to
                                                                                                   the adjacent soil columns (between the pipe and the
                                                                                                   trench wall). This settlement produces shearing
                                                                                                   forces which reduce the load on a flexible pipe to an
