Module 1 HX & Principles

The document summarizes the origins and founding principles of the Red Cross movement. It describes how Henry Dunant organized volunteers to assist wounded soldiers at the Battle of Solferino in 1859, where there was no organized medical system. This experience led him to propose creating trained volunteer organizations in countries to aid wounded soldiers, and promoting an international agreement to protect wounded soldiers and medical workers. This gave rise to the International Red Cross and Red Crescent movement and establishment of the International Committee of the Red Cross in 1863.
