Introduction
Rice is one of the most staple food in the
Philippines and in Asian countries. There are only
two major factors that are responsible for its low
yields: adverse weather and pest epidemics.
One of the most common pests that manifest rice
in the Philippines is the white stem borer larvae. It
can destroy the rice from seedling to maturity. It
cause about 20% damage in early planted rice crops
and 80% in late-planted crops (IRRI).
As a solution, the researchers decided to use Papaya
leaf extract as a pesticide in eliminating White stem
borer larvae.
Statement of the Problem
What treatment level shows a high mortality rate of
white stem borer in rice?
Is there a significant difference in the mortality rate of
white stem borer with different concentrations of
papaya leaf extract?
Is there a significant difference in the mortality rate of
white stem borer between the papaya extract with the
highest mortality rate and commercial product?
Significance of the Study
The findings of the study will redound to the following:
Department of Agriculture (DA). The department
will have another alternative pesticide to offer the
people in eliminating white stem borer that cause
great damage to rice crops.
Farmers. The farmer can use the organic extraction
that is not harmful in their respective rice fields.
Future Researchers. They can use the study as
reference in case they would like to investigate further
the capability of the plant used in this study.
