National Aids Control Programme

The National AIDS Control Programme was launched in India in 1987 with the aim of preventing HIV transmission and reducing associated morbidity and mortality. It has since gone through several phases (NACP 1-5) targeting high-risk groups, surveillance, treatment, and awareness. Key achievements include reducing transfusion-related HIV transmission via blood banks and increasing availability of counseling/testing centers. The current NACP V aims to provide comprehensive treatment and support services while halting new HIV infections.
