PEAKING IN WHAT HE TERMED AS SELF-

What is Maslow’s
Hierarchy of
Needs?
Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is a theory of psychology
explaining human motivation based on the pursuit of different
levels of needs. The theory states that humans are motivated to
fulfill their needs in a hierarchical order. This order begins with
the most basic needs before moving on to more advanced needs.
The ultimate goal, according to this theory, is to reach the fifth
level of the hierarchy: self-actualization.
Levels of Hierarchy

1. Physiological Needs
2. Safety Needs
3. Love and Belonging Needs
4. Esteem Needs
5. Self-Actualization Needs
PERSONAL
DEVELOPMENT
IN
ADOLESCENCE
Adolescence is the period of
transition between childhood and
early adulthood. It starts with the
biological changes called puberty , and
to the way a young person relates to
the world understanding what to
expect at different stages can
promote healthy development
throughout adolescence and into early
adulthood.
In the Philippine context, author’s corpus,
Lucas, borad, and Lucido (2010) defined the
three stages of adolescence as:
•Early adolescence- between 10 and 13 years
of age.
•Middle adolescence- between 14 and 16 years
of age.
•Late adolescence- between 17 and 20 years
of age.
