DSS have existed since the 1930's, however, the first generation steels had unacceptable corrosion resistance and toughness at weldments. The DSS most commonly used today in refineries include those with 22% and 25% Cr. The API I aaac benefits for The DSS are maintained even to a ratio of 25:75 austenite / ferrite volume fraction.
