Overview
OPC UA is the next generation of OPC technology. It's a more secure, open, and reliable mechanism for
transferring information between servers and clients. This guide helps you to set up the UPC UA client with
CoLOS.

Prerequisites

• OPC UA Server
• OPC UA License for CoLOS
To check the availability of the license:
CoLOS Administrator ➔ Control Panel ➔ System ➔ Properties ➔ License

Configuring the OPC UA client in the CoLOS Administrator

Method 1: Using Custom OPC Server
To configure the OPC UA client in the CoLOS administrator using the customer OPC server:

1. Open CoLOS Administrator

2. On the CoLOS administrator left side panel, navigate to Control Panel ➔ My Devices ➔ Add
Device.
3. On the Add Device Wizard window, select Next.
4. To choose the device from the list, navigate to Other Devices ➔ OPC Client ➔ OPC Client UA.
5. Select Next.

6. On the Connection Parameters section, enter the OPC Node/Machine.

7. To add the OPC Server, select Browse.

8. On the OPC Servers window, enter the Custom OPC Server (Connection Address (UA TCP)).
9. Select Add Server.

You will now see the OPC Server added to the Available OPC Servers list.

10. From the Available OPC Servers list, select the added server.
11. Select Reload Endpoints.

CoLOS will now load the Available OPC Endpoints list.

12. From the Available OPC Endpoints list, select your OPC Endpoint.
13. If the endpoint requires connecting credentials, select the checkbox next to Use Authentication
and enter the credentials.
14. Once done, select OK.
15. To test the connection, select Test Connection.

You will now see the test response as SUCCEEDED. If it fails, verify the selected Endpoint, and the
credentials entered.

16. Select Next.

17. Select Browse for OPC items.
18. From the OPC items list, select the items required and select Add >>. Alternatively, to remove the
items, select << Remove.

19. Once done, select Select.

20. To test the added OPC items, select Test OPC Items.

You will now see the success status of the test with green check marks.
21. Select Next.
22. To configure the OPC item for job selection from the Available OPC items' drop-down menus:
• Select an OPC item to trigger Job selection (optional).
• Select an OPC item to update the feedback on Job selection (optional).

23. Once done, select Next and enter a description for the OPC Client UA.
24. To complete the process, select Next ➔ Finish.

OPC UA client is now configured in the CoLOS Administrator and available under CoLOS
Administrator Control Panel ➔ Control Panel ➔ My Devices.

Method 2: Using Discovery URL

To configure the OPC UA client in the CoLOS administrator using the discovery URL:

1. Open CoLOS Administrator

2. On the CoLOS Administrator's left side panel, navigate to Control Panel ➔ My Devices ➔ Add
Device.
3. On the Add Device Wizard window, select Next.

4. To choose the device from the list, navigate to Other Devices ➔ OPC Client ➔ OPC Client UA.
5. Select Next.

6. On the Connection Parameters section, enter the OPC Node/Machine.

7. To add the OPC Server, select Browse.

8. On the OPC Servers window, select the checkbox next to Use Discovery URL.
9. Enter the Discovery URL.

10. If the Endpoint requires credentials to connect, select the checkbox next to Use Authentication
and enter the credentials.
11. Once done, select OK.
12. To test the connection, select Test Connection.

You will now see the test response as SUCCEEDED. If it fails, verify the selected Endpoint, and the
credentials entered.

13. Select Next.

14. Select Browse for OPC items.
15. From the OPC items list, select the items required and select Add >>. Alternatively, to remove the

16. Once done, select Select.

20. Once done, select Next and enter a description for the OPC Client UA.
21. To complete the process, select Next ➔ Finish.

OPC UA client is now configured in the CoLOS Administrator and available under CoLOS
Administrator Control Panel ➔ Control Panel ➔ My Devices.

Configuring the OPC UA client in the CoLOS Application Toolkit

Method 1: Using Custom OPC Server
To configure the OPC UA client in the CoLOS Application Toolkit using a custom OPC server:

1. Open CoLOS Application Toolkit.

2. On the CoLOS Application Toolkit's left panel, select OPC Events.
3. On the OPC Events tab, top left, select the green plus button.

4. Enter the following:

• Name
• Node/Machine
5. To add the OPC Server, select the three-dot menu next to the OPC server.
6. On the OPC server browser window, select the OPC version as UA from the drop-down menu.
7. Enter the Custom OPC Server and select Add Server.

You will now see the OPC Server added to the Available OPC Servers list.

8. From the Available OPC Servers list, select the added server.
9. Select Reload Endpoints.

CoLOS Applications Toolkit will now load the Available OPC Endpoints list.

10. From the Available OPC Endpoints list, select your OPC Endpoint.

11. If the Endpoint requires credentials to connect, select the checkbox next to Use Authentication

12. Once done, select Select.
13. To add the OPC items, select the three-dot menu next to the OPC Item.
14. On the OPC Items window, select the OPC version as UA from the drop-down menu.

Note: CoLOS Application Toolkit may throw an error if the certificate of the OPC UA server is in the
rejected folder; move them to the trusted or cert folder to avoid this.

15. Select Reload OPC items.

16. From the OPC items list, select the items required (expand the selection if needed).

17. Once done, select Select.

18. To save the configuration, on the top right of the CoLOS Application Toolkit, select the Save
button.

The OPC UA client is now configured in the CoLOS Application Toolkit.

Method 2: Using Discovery URL

To configure the OPC UA client in the CoLOS Application Toolkit using Discovery URL:

1. Open CoLOS Application Toolkit.

2. On the CoLOS Application Toolkit's left panel, select OPC Events.
3. On the OPC Events tab, top left, select the green plus button.

4. Enter the following:

• Name
• Node/Machine
5. To add the OPC Server, select the three-dot menu next to the OPC server.
6. On the OPC server browser window, select the OPC version as UA from the drop-down menu.
7. Select the checkbox next to the Use discovery URL.
8. Enter the discovery URL.

9. If the Endpoint requires credentials to connect, select the checkbox next to Use Authentication
and enter the credentials.
10. Once done, select Select.
11. To add the OPC items, select the three-dot menu next to the OPC Item.
12. On the OPC Items window, select the OPC version as UA from the drop-down menu.

Note: CoLOS Application Toolkit may throw an error if the certificate of the OPC UA server is in the

The OPC UA client is now configured in the CoLOS Application Toolkit.
