INFO AND TIPS
For each coaster-flower, several elements need to be made: first, the center (in yellow), then the
purple petals, and finish with the purple-lilac decor. The basket-flowerbed of the given size is
designed to hold 5 flowers.
The amount of yarn specified will be enough for two baskets if you make:
5 flowers with petals in col. 54 and decor in col. 72
5 flowers with petals in col. 72 and decor in col. 54.
When washing the coasters, dry them flat before assembling them into the flowerbed.
Special stitches
surface sl st = surface slip stitch: insert your hook into the fabric at the point as pattern
requires from front to back, keeping the yarn behind the work, yarn over and pull the yarn
through the fabric and the working loop on your hook to complete the slip stitch.
sdc = stacked double crochet: сh1, sc in same st* as ch1, insert hook in space between ch1 and
sc from front to back, grab the yarn and pull up a looр, yo and pull through 2 loops.
*For the first sdc – into the ring.

hobbii-pattern-sku:pattern-1276-244-5501
TLO = work into the third loop only: make your stitch by inserting the hook from top to bottom
in the third loop (one at the wrong side of your work just below the back loop) of the previous
round stitch as pattern requires, leaving the front and back loops facing forward on the right
side of the work
FS = finishing stitch: drop the loop from your hook; with yarn behind the work, insert hook into
the 1st st from back to front, put the loop back on the hook and pull through (in total stitches
count I do not count this stitch)
stamen = ch6, yo, insert hook into the back bump of the 1st ch from hook, grab the yarn and
pull up a loop, (yo, insert hook into the back bump of the next ch from hook, grab the yarn and
pull up a loop) x2, yo and pull through all 7 loops on hook, pull tight, ch1, sl st into the back
bump of the last 3 sl sts.
invisible join = cut your yarn, leaving a few inches tail, and pull this tail all the way through the
top of the last stitch made. Pick up your yarn needle and thread it with the tail of yarn. Or you
may use your hook instead of a needle. Insert your needle back to front under both top loops of
the second stitch. Back to the last stitch made and insert your needle into the top of it. Make
sure that you insert your needle through the third loop of the stitch as well.

DÉCOR
The first step of the decor is a circle made with col. 54 using surface slip stitches. Keep the
right side facing you, find the skipped dc in Round 3 of the flower's middle (this is the stitch
under the stamen). Insert your hook from front to back to the left of this stitch, and holding
the yarn on the reverse side, pull up a loop (pic 1). * Moving counterclockwise, make 3
surface slip stitches between the posts of the next 3 dc.
Now you are to the right of the skipped dc under the next stamen. The next surface sl st
should be made in the space above the skipped dc, and another one in the bottom base of
the stamen. Then, make two surface sl sts in reverse order. Follow the red arrows in pic 2,
which indicate the direction of movement.
Continue working around the circle, starting from *, and stop after making the
second-to-last stitch.
Cut the yarn and pull it through the second-to-last stitch. To form the final stitch, pass the
yarn through both loops of the first surface sl st (pic 3), then insert it into the second-to-last
stitch (follow the black arrow in pic 3) and pull it to the wrong side. Join it with the second
end of the yarn (pic 4).

Final step: embroider the circle on the right side of the middle of the flower.
Cut about 23 inches (60 cm) of col. 54 Using a needle, work along the stitches of Round 2,
moving up and down (the direction is shown by the black arrows in pic 5), working under the
front and back loops of the dc of Rounds 1 and 2. * You need to insert the needle from
below upwards through the loops of Round 1 and Round 2, turn the needle, insert it into the
next stitch of Round 2, and return it to the same stitch of Round 1. Repeat from * a total of
12 times: you will be using 2 stitches from Round 2 for each stitch from Round 1.

Pic 5
Pull both ends of the yarn through the center of the embroidered circle and secure the ends (pic
6). Repeat the same with a purple yarn, so that in Round 2, the stitches alternate in a
checkerboard pattern relative to col. 54: from the bottom side, col. 54 and col. 72 will duplicate
each other for each stitch, while on the top side, they will alternate, as shown in pic 7. Secure
the ends. Hide the yarn ends between the embroidery and the middle of the flower. Work the
décor for each flower.
