Text F: School Library Renovation

Over the past two months, Maple Grove High School has undertaken a
complete renovation of its library. The aim was to modernise the space,
encourage more students to use the facility, and integrate digital resources
into the traditional library experience. The project was funded by a
government education grant and supported by a small fundraising campaign
run by students and staff.

The new library design includes a large open-plan reading area, private study
pods, and a digital research zone equipped with computers and tablets. The
old furniture has been replaced with comfortable seating and modern
workstations. A quiet zone has also been established to give students a place
to focus without distractions. Additionally, the school invested in an
expanded digital catalogue, providing access to e-books and online academic
journals.

To celebrate the reopening, the school hosted a Library Launch Week.

Events included a book swap, a student poetry reading, and a workshop on
effective online research. Many students took part in the activities, and
feedback from both students and teachers has been largely positive. “It
finally feels like a place I want to study in,” said one Year 11 student.

However, not all feedback was positive. Some students reported that the
digital devices were not always available due to high demand. Others found
that the new layout, while modern, had fewer traditional books on display,
which disappointed those who preferred physical reading materials. There
were also concerns about noise levels in the open-plan areas during busy
times.

Looking ahead, the school hopes to make adjustments based on this

feedback. Plans are in place to rotate e-devices more frequently, improve
soundproofing, and reorganise bookshelves to display more physical books.
The school has also committed to running regular student surveys to ensure
the library continues to meet their needs.
