Curls
Each bonnet has 2 curls added to the stem in different lengths, these are made by working
increase stitches down a chain. Make one longer one and one shorter one per stem,
choosing the correct size for your bonnet.
When attaching to the stem, sew the shorter one to the base of the stem column and the
longer one underneath the leaf section to follow the sample. The ends of your curls can be
used to attach the stem to your bonnet later when joining.
Size A/B
Work stitches into the back bump of stitch when working back down the chain.

To transform our ears to make them into a cat or a bat we want to give them a little shape
by folding. The Bat ears are the same on both sides, but remember with the cat we want to
make a mirrored pair.
Cat Ear Fold: fold one corner point inward towards the centre point, with the contrast inner
ear colour to the front. We will secure this with a row along the bottom edge in our Main
colour, this row also makes it easier to join our ears with our main bonnet. Repeat the same
for other ear folding opposite corner
Bat Ear Fold: fold both corner points inward towards the centre point, with the contrast
inner ear colour to the front. We will secure this with a row along the bottom edge in our
Main colour, this row also makes it easier to join our ears with our main bonnet.
Ear Bottom Edge Row: starting with MC on your hook, work over edge sts through 2 layers
at folds, sc (dc) evenly along edge, working 1 sc (dc) over the sides of sts and 2 sc (dc) in
center ring, at end of row fasten off.

Wing Join
Join wing front and back together with contrast colour. Placing wing triangles together,
working on the side with contrast colour up: ch 1, working into the first st join sides by sc
(dc) through the top of the stitch through both layers, work 9/12 sc (dc) down edge till
corner ch sp, in corner (sc (dc), ch 1, sc (dc)), 6/7 sc (dc), [ch 3, working into back bump of
chain, miss 1, sc (dc), hdc (htr), miss 1 st from wing edge, attach back to wing with a sc (dc) in
next st], repeat from [ to ] once more for sizes C & D only, ch 4, working into back bump of
chain, miss 1, sc (dc), hdc (htr), dc (tr), miss 1 st from wing edge, attach back to wing with a
sc (dc) in the last st of wing edge. Fasten off.
Top Edge:
Using the main colour, join the top edge of your wings
together - you want this edge to be with the RS on the
front with the contrast colour towards you, so for one
you will be working from wing tip to inner and the other
you will be working from inner to wing tip. Follow the
stitch pattern below. Starting with the yarn on your hook,
join in with a sc (dc), work 1 sc into each ch st at point of
wing and 2 sc (dc) over each edge stitch through both layers of joined wing top.
Top stitch:
Using your contrast colour you can then add your wing detail by either using a tapestry
needle or using surface crochet. I added my details using surface slip stitch. I cut a long
length of yarn, folded in half to attach to the piece and worked surface crochet with a
double strand. Join neatly at outer edges by folding strand over hook, work the first st as a
single strand to sl st join and then continue working with both strands. Working on the RS
starting from the stitch next to the first wing edge detail, work sl st in line from outer edge
to center ring, then turn and work back across wing to inner edge. Work detail line down
leaving 3/4 stitches to bottom point. The placement is shown as the dots on the schematics.

JOINING
Join the bonnet in 2 sections, front and back.
Using your preferred joining method, I favour a sc (dc) crochet join on the inside of the
work, join the front panel and back section of your bonnet, leaving it in two parts. Join the
front 4 squares in a row, and join your back section by either joining your triangle to square
for sizes A and C, or joining 3 squares together following the diagram.
Join: To join with sc (dc) join, start with your main colour on hook, place squares right sides
together. Work through the corner ch sp of 2 squares with a sc (dc), continue to work along
the edge in sc (dc) working through the top of the stitch through 2 layers until you reach the
next corner ch sp, work one sc (dc) through corner sp, fasten off.
Continue using your preferred joining method to complete the bonnet and attach
decorative features.
DETAILS
Now it's time to add our details and turn our bonnets into little pumpkins, cats or bats!
Baby Boo Bonnets - Halloween Bonnet Trio | No. 1199-253-5406 | © Hobbii 2025 | 9
Pumpkin:
For the pumpkin you want to continue joining and join both sections together to complete
the bonnet base. Work in one row, joining from the bottom side edge, up over the crown
and to the other side, fasten off.
Finish by sewing the stem to the top of the head. Attach this over the center join between
the front and back half of your bonnet at the crown.
Cat:
Using stitch markers to hold your ears in place, position these where you wish to join. I
placed my ears for Sizes A & B 2 stitches down from the top center and for Sizes C & D 3
stitches down each side from center. These will be sandwiched in your join, so when
working over the ears you will be working through 3 layers of stitch.
Using your contrast colour you can then add whiskers by either using a tapestry needle or
using surface crochet. I added my whiskers using surface slip stitch. I cut a length of yarn,
folded it in half to attach to the piece and worked surface crochet with a double strand. Join
neatly at outer edges by folding strand over hook, work the first st as a single strand to sl st
join and then continue working with both strands. Work these each side in the bottom
square of the bonnet, working from the open edge inwards.

Bat:
Using stitch markers to hold your ears and wings in place, position these where you wish to
join. I placed my ears for Sizes A & B 2 stitches down from the top center and for Sizes C & D
3 stitches down each side from center and then left 1 stitch between ears and wings. For the
wings I attached 2/3 of one edge into the bonnet seam, joining from wing top to the
embroidery line. These will be sandwiched in your join, so when working over the ears and
wings you will be working through 3 layers of stitch.
