INTRODUCTION

On to the advancement for the 21 st century and technological driven society,

monitoring and control systems are very evident worldwide because of its convenience

nowadays. It is commonly used in homes, companies, and other establishments to have

an assurance when it comes to safety and security such as, Closed Circuit Television

(CCTV), smoke detector, alarm system and telecommunications, and many more that are

operated by computers based upon the program on it. One of the commonly known

computer-based programs is the remote controllers wherein you can conveniently operate

certain objects from a distant without bothering it to operate with actual physical

intervention.

This kind of technology is designed for an easy installment, less place to occupy,

and for easy maintenance though the range of its applications is not yet wide that much.

Further innovation is required in order to develop such device that serve as a key to

common problems at home. Monitoring systems are evolving into market nowadays, and

over the years technology has revolutionized our perspective of the world. Modern

Technology has made it possible for the discovery of many functional and utility devices,

and made our lives better. The revolutions that will surface in years to come will far

outweigh that has been experienced in the past. Technology brings potentials that will

continue to transform the way we live like never before. Fast development of technology

has brought out fascinating discoveries in the aspects of Robotics and Engineering.

1
Most of the time, people cannot avoid to left the electrical loads unattended due to

negligence and difficulty in deactivating specified running electrical loads, specifically,

during rush hour. It attracts potential accidents such as fire that occasionally endangers

establishments and lives at all cost.

For these reasons stated, the researchers used the concept of wireless monitoring

and control system in order to create Electric Circuit Analyzer Monitoring and Control

System (ElCAMoCS), an innovative electric system device to control the device that will

efficiently and effectively benefit the users.

Statement of the Problem

Generally, this study focused to efficiently monitor unattended electrical loads

and effectively prevent a potential accident that is caused by unattended electrical loads.

Specifically, this study sought to answer the following questions;

a. Is the utilization of ElCAMoCS effective in analyzing and controlling

electrical loads?

b. Is the utilization of ElCAMoCS efficient in monitoring electrical loads?

c. Is the design of the system competent in analyzing accurately?

Statement of the Objectives

Generally, this study aims to develop an electric circuit analyzer-based

monitoring and control system.

2
Specifically, this study sought to (1) efficiently monitor unattended and

unwanted electrical loads (2) effectively prevent potential accidents that is caused by

unattended electrical loads.

Significance of the Study

Users. This study is significant to the users in terms of efficiency and safety. Its remote-

based access will provide the users an easy access in controlling and in securing the

safety of the users.

Household. It is necessary to install it to household especially when there is nobody left

at home. Sometimes people tend to forget on checking their appliances if it certainly

turned-off. Potentially, it may cause overheating that would eventually result into fire;

losing the infrastructure at all cost and can increase the risk into neighboring houses.

Community. It is beneficial for the residents of the community. Since it is less

hazardous and accident free, the cases of fire will be reduced and at the same time, the

safety of each and every one will be achieved.

Establishment- This study is significant to the establishment and to the owner itself. This

will exceed the capability of the owners to directly monitor and secure the safety of their

establishments and also themselves at all cost, and it is also time-saving and handy

because the safety lies wirelessly on the Android Phone.

3

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

This chapter represents the review of related literature and studies that are

included in this study. This also includes the definition of terms and the conceptual

framework of the study.

As per Nordin, (2010), House theft cases increases as years goes by, that leads

into aggressive and brutal way. Thieves use variety of ways including abduction to do

such thing, in response to their purpose. These cases have been one of the most serious

problems that happen in Malaysia. So the purpose of this project is to design and develop

a home security system that can provide security against intrusion and other emergency

situation by alarm via short message service (SMS) that serves as a wireless technology.

In addition to the house theft cases, today many people are facing difficulties to control

home appliances, especially for the elderly and disabled. Therefore, this project is

developed to control a home appliance that can be controlled remotely with hand phone

through SMS by the utilization of GSM module. Another objective of this project is to

produce the system that can inexpensive, user-friendly, small of size and easy to install.

As per Maharana, (2015), Many household devices operate with alternating

current. These devices are being switched by using switches or keys that are considered

as a component of the electric circuit. All home appliances have become a part of the

daily life of a normal human being. These devices are being driven by alternating current

supplied to every house from the energy station. Taking into consideration the different

advancement in the field of electronics and robotics we can develop a method for

5
operating all home appliances by using an android phone with the help of Bluetooth

Technology. The study, discusses about the means of using Bluetooth technology for

controlling any AC or DC machine by a single tap on the Android Phone, using it as a

remote control.

As per R. Anadan, et al. (2013), Security and automation is a prime concern in a

day-today life of an individual. The approach to home and industrial automation and

security system design is almost standardized nowadays. The study have tried to increase

these standards by combining new design techniques and developed a low cost home and

industrial automated security systems. Users want to be as much secure as possible. The

design of simple hardware circuit enables every user to use this wireless home security

system with PIR sensor, Gas sensor, Smoke sensor and Main fuse Failure Detector at

Home and Industries. The system is fully controlled by microcontroller. All the sensors

and detector are interconnected to microcontroller by using various types of interface

circuits. The microcontroller will continuously monitor all the sensors and if it senses any

security problem then the microcontroller will send the SMS to the user mobile through

GSM modem. The microcontroller also turns ON and OFF the electrical appliances in

home and industry based on SMS received from the user.

As per S. Maqbool and S.A. Lone, (2015), The study of this paper proposed a

method to make a base for the monitoring and Control of systems. The monitoring and

Control of systems could be from monitoring of movements in any particular area to the

monitoring of any external electrical, mechanical device. Taking the advantage of the

6
same the researchers developed the system for the monitoring and control system using

GSM technology. Also, the system is controlled which is needed in special circumstances

and is be implemented with the help of complete circuitry which is a different module

(DTMF) module has a specific code as input through GSM encoder that is processed by

decoder circuitry of our system. The goal is to find an improvement over the previous

surveillance systems. The maintainability of the new and improved is quite efficient as it

is easy to handle it by simple software demo. The facilities provided by it such as easy

handling, a secrecy support, an immediate action are granted. A prototype is built in the

windows platform using C# to demonstrate the functioning of the entire system.

As per R.G. Sarangle, et al. (2012), The system of energy billing is error prone

and also time and labor consuming. Errors get introduced at every stage of energy billing

like errors with electro mechanical meters, human errors while noting down the meter

reading, and errors while processing the paid bills and the due bills. The remedy for all

these problems GPMC (GSM based power meter and control system) is developed which

consist of the integration of a single phase Class 1, IEC61036, standard compliance

digital kWh power meter. It will keep track of the meter reading of each day and the

readings with the user identification number send it to user as well as to the electricity

department will keep the track of each SMS meter reading and the appropriate bill get

generated at the last day of the month and the bill is forwarded to the user from the

server. So there is no chance of confusion to the user for paying the bill. The GPMC also

feature distribution control system which controls the power of the appliances remotely.

7
Synthesis of the State of the Art

The review of related studies emphasized the use of Home Wireless Security

System by using GSM that enables to provide security against intrusion and other

emergency situation by alarm via short message service (SMS). The study GSM based

Wireless Home Appliances Control and Security System focused on developing and

designing a home security system that can control and monitor the device or appliances at

homes remotely with hand phone through SMS.

The researchers developed a System Technology, composed of both Hardware

and Software. That uses not just GSM module 800L but also Bluetooth technology and

Gizduino Microcontroller as a core tool of the device. The researchers designed a

wireless operated device that can be controlled via SMS and Bluetooth and relevant even

into distant places by certain commands. It also analyzes the Hardware, its off/on

appliance. It’s Safety and Security runs through the system, as it verify the registered user

in the device that is the only capable of access in the Wireless Electric Circuit Analyzer-

based Monitoring and Control System.

Statement of the Hypotheses

H o – The ElCAMoCS is a device that can efficiently monitor and effectively prevent

potential accidents caused by unattended electrical loads.

H a – The ElCAMoCS will not be able to efficiently monitor and effectively prevent

potential accidents caused by unattended electrical loads.

21
Electrical Loads such as fans, bulbs, and other devices are tested and controlled

wirelessly by GSM module. As shown on Fig. 1a, the user sends command keys on the

System Administrator that will control the client-hardware. The command is transmitted

to the hardware that is being controlled. The system administrator replies back as soon as

the command has taken its effect. Then on Fig. 1b, checking the current status of

electrical loads is also transmitted through SMS. It indicates the loads that are running

and are not, and as the same time the Time and Date of Analysis that comes at the last

part of the message, which is “BULB1 OFF, BULB2 ON, BULB3 OFF, BULB4 ON,

OUTLET1 OFF, OUTLET2 OFF, OUTLET3 ON, OUTLET4 OFF, 03:10:46 PM,

data.

Figure 2: Efficiency of the Bluetooth Technology

22
Figure 2 shows how the Bluetooth module controls the system device. Bluetooth

Electronics was functional and synced in the Bluetooth Module and they easily

communicate to hardware. It explains that the Bluetooth Module is the fastest to transmit

to the system device than the GSM Module. Because the Bluetooth Module is a short-

range wireless controller it is about 10 meters far to enable to controlled the system

device using the app that the researchers installed while the GSM Module is wide or

long-range wireless controller by using SIM.

Based from the figure 1 and figure 2, the use of the electric circuit analyzer with

GSM-Based Monitoring and Control System was very effective and in terms of

monitoring and controlling the electric system device. Based from the testing process

conducted by the researchers, Gizduino, GSM and Bluetooth technology showed that it is

an efficient core tool for monitoring and controlling a system. In general, these core tools

are efficient to use in making such device and other related projects.

23
Figure 3. Relationship between Server and Hardware

The researchers compare the results based on the tests conducted. Based on the

Figure 3, the system administrator and the client-hardware shows similar results based on

the received command. The System administrator shows the activated electrical loads

coordinated to the client-hardware.

24
FINDINGS AND IMPLICATIONS

Based from the results gathered by the researchers upon testing the electric system

device, the Wireless Electric Circuit Analyze- Based Monitoring and Control system

(ElCAMoCS) showed effectiveness.

The researchers found out that the integration of ElCAMoCS are efficient for

monitoring, controlling and analyzing the system device. Since it was tested via SMS and

Bluetooth technology, it enabled to assed its efficiency in terms of transmitting and

perceiving messages or any updates and status about the system device. Based on the

result, the researchers also found out that Bluetooth and GSM module has its limitations.

For the Bluetooth, its limitation is it only the range and GSM module concern about the

variance of the signal. Furthermore, researchers found out that Bluetooth Module is the

fastest to transmit to the system device than the GSM Module. Because the Bluetooth

Module is a short-range wireless controller it is about 10 meters far to enable to

controlled the system device using the app that the researchers installed while the GSM

Module is wide or long-range wireless controller by using SIM. In terms of signal

25
variations the researchers found out whether there are varies on the signal it will

constantly transmitted on the system device but it will consume a few seconds because

of the signal varies.

CONCLUSIONS

Tests have been conducted by the researchers; via SMS and Bluetooth

Technology. Since the study is focused in monitoring analyzing and controlling electrical

loads, the researchers installed GSM sim800l module enabling the user to achieve the

expected results in monitoring and controlling it effectively then efficiently, based on the

results of the following test and observation, sending SMS to transmit commands is

effective. When the monitoring became handy it will be efficient in electric consumption,

time and also safety of the establishment at all cost. The design of the software is aligned

to the aims of the study, the tests on the relationship of the software and hardware

corresponded on the certain codes that have been transmitted. Therefore, its analysis is

accurate. Overall, the researchers concluded that this study is efficient in monitoring and

effective in preventing potential accidents that is caused by unattended electrical loads.

26
RECOMMENDATIONS

The researchers recommend few things that can be utilized in conducting further

improvements/ developments in the study. The researchers recommend the future

researchers to undertake the same research.

It is very much commendable to have a provision for operation without a main

power supply such as solar panel and inverter. At a situation of blackout occurrence, it is

necessary to have a certain backup enable to sustain the power source and to have

continuous analyzing, monitoring, and control of the electric system device. The

researchers also recommend that is very important of having a consistent reception of

signal that happens to be a factor of having a proper monitoring and control of the device.

Furthermore, it is must to modify the program of the switch to make it functional. Lastly,

to prevent electrical fluctuation, it is a necessary to have a proper execution of electrical

wiring of the circuits.
