Chapter-1 (INTERNET SERVICES)
Q1. Define the term network. Define the different type of network.
Ans- A network is a collection of computers, servers, mainframes, and other
devices that are interconnected to share resources such as data and
applications.
Networks can be classified based on their geographical area and size:
• LAN (Local Area Network): A network that is confined to a small
geographical area, like a home or office.
• WAN (Wide Area Network): A network that covers a broad geographical
area, potentially spanning countries or continents.
• MAN (Metropolitan Area Network): A network that spans a city or large
campus.
• CAN (Campus Area Network): A network that covers a university campus
or a similar-sized area.
• PAN (Personal Area Network): A small network typically within an
individual’s workspace.
Q2. What is a web page?
Ans- A web page is a single document on the World Wide Web, written in
HTML, that can be viewed in a web browser. A website consists of multiple
interlinked web pages.
Q2. What is DNS?
Ans- DNS (Domain Name System) is the system that translates human-
friendly domain names (like www.example.com) into machine-readable IP
addresses, allowing users to access websites by typing easy-to-remember
names instead of numerical IP addresses.
Q3. Define Wi-Fi.
Ans- Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) is a technology that allows electronic devices
like laptops, smartphones, and tablets to connect to the internet or other
networks wirelessly using radio waves.
Q4. Write a short note on
a) Switch
Ans- Switch: A switch is a device used in networking to connect multiple
devices in a local area network (LAN). It operates at the data link layer and
ensures efficient data transfer by directing traffic to the specific device that
needs the data.
b) Bluetooth
Ans- Bluetooth: Bluetooth is a short-range wireless technology used to
exchange data between devices over distances typically up to 10 meters. It
is widely used for connecting 11 peripherals like headphones, keyboards,
and mobile phones.
c) Repeater
Ans- Repeater: A repeater is an electronic device used to extend the range
of a network. It amplifies or regenerates weak signals to ensure that they
can travel over long distances without loss of data.
Q6. Write two advantages of networking.
Ans- Advantages of Networking:
• Resource Sharing: Networking allows multiple users to share resources
like printers, files, and internet connections, reducing costs.
• Centralized Management: Networks allow for centralized management of
devices and resources, improving security and making it easier to update or
maintain software and hardware.
Q7. Describe the concept of components of a network.
Ans- The key components of a network are:
• Sender: The device or computer that sends the data.
• Receiver: The device or computer that receives the data.
• Message: The actual data being transferred.
• Transmission Medium: The physical medium (like cables, fiber optics, or
air for wireless) through which data is transmitted.
• Protocol: A set of rules governing how data is transmitted over the
network to ensure proper communication.
Q8. Define the two types of network architecture.
Ans-
→Client-Server Architecture:
In this model, there is a central server that provides services or resources
to client machines. The server manages resources like data, printing, or
authentication, while clients make requests for these services.
→ Peer-to-Peer Architecture: In this model, each device (peer) on the
network can act both as a client and a server. There is no central authority,
and each device shares its resources with others.
F. Application based questions.
Q1. Which type of network is suitable for your school library?
Ans- For a school library, a LAN (Local Area Network) would be the most
suitable. It is ideal for a small geographical area, such as a library, allowing
the devices within the library to be interconnected, share resources (like
printers), and access data quickly.
Q2. Rahul wants to use the internet on his computer. Name the device
which can help him to do so.
Ans- Rahul would need a modem or router to connect his computer to the
internet. A router is used to provide internet access to multiple devices in a
network, while a modem connects to the internet service provider (ISP)
