Syllabus

Paper 1: Fundamentals of Physiotherapy

Unit 1:

Introduction to Physiotherapy- Definition, scope, and historical evolution of

physiotherapy- Objectives and principles of physiotherapy practice- Roles

and responsibilities of physiotherapists- Ethical standards, patient rights, and

professional conduct- Scope of physiotherapy in different medical conditions.

Unit 2:

Human Anatomy & Physiology Relevant to Physiotherapy

Musculoskeletal system: Bones: structure and functions- Muscles: types,

functions, and properties- Joints: classification and movements- Nervous

system: Central and peripheral nervous systems- Neurophysiology related to

motor control- Circulatory and respiratory systems: Heart, blood vessels,

lungs- Gas exchange and circulation- Basic biomechanics and kinesiology

principles.

Unit 3:

Basic Physiotherapy Assessment Techniques- Patient history taking and

subjective assessment- Observation: posture, gait, deformities- Range of

motion (ROM) measurement- Vital signs assessment: pulse, blood pressure,

respiration- Physical examination techniques: palpation, percussion,

auscultation.

Unit 4:

Physiotherapy Equipment and Infection Control- Common physiotherapy

devices and their functions- Proper handling and maintenance- Infection

control protocols: Hand hygiene- Equipment sterilization and disinfection

PPEusage- Precautions and safety measures.


Paper 2: Therapeutic Modalities & Rehabilitation Techniques

Unit 1:

Therapeutic Modalities in Physiotherapy- Principles of electrotherapy: TENS,

ultrasound, interferential therapy- Thermotherapy: Hot packs, cold packs,

paraffin wax- Cryotherapy and heat application techniques- Laser therapy

and diathermy.

Unit 2:

Musculoskeletal & Orthopedic Rehabilitation- Post-fracture physiotherapy:

Immobilization, mobilization phases- Post-surgical rehabilitation: Arthroscopy,

joint replacements- Management of arthritis and sports injuries

Strengthening, flexibility, and mobility exercises.

Unit 3:

Neurological Rehabilitation- Stroke recovery protocols- Multiple sclerosis and

Parkinson’s disease management- Peripheral nerve injury rehabilitation

Balance, gait training, and coordination exercises.

Unit 4:

Cardiorespiratory and Pediatric Physiotherapy- Cardiac and pulmonary

physiotherapy techniques- Breathing exercises and incentive spirometry

Pediatric developmental physiotherapy: Motor delays, cerebral palsy

Activities for improving coordination and strength in children.


Paper 3: Activity Therapy & Specialized Techniques

Unit 1:

Introduction to Activity & Occupational Therapy- Definitions and scope- Goals

of activity therapy in holistic health- Types of activity therapy: Recreational,

occupational, and adaptive activities- Planning and designing activity-based

interventions.

Unit 2:

Therapeutic Exercises & Activity Programs- Range of motion exercises

Strengthening exercises- Endurance and aerobic exercises- Balance and

proprioception activities- Postural correction and flexibility exercises.

Unit 3:

Special Activity Techniques- Aquatic therapy and hydrotherapy- Yoga,

relaxation, and breathing exercises- Use of assistive devices and orthoses

Visual, auditory, and sensory stimulation activities.

Unit 4:

Activity Therapy for Specific Populations- Geriatric activity programs

Pediatric activity and play therapy- Burn and wound care activities

Psychological benefits of activity therapy and stress management.


Paper 4: Hospital & Community Management, Legal & Professional Aspects

Unit 1:

Hospital Management & Clinical Record Keeping- Organization of

physiotherapy departments- Equipment management and maintenance

Documentation: patient records, progress notes- Infection control and safety

protocols.

Unit 2:

Legal, Ethical & Ethical Practice- Rights of patients- Confidentiality and

informed consent- Ethical issues in physiotherapy practice- Legal

responsibilities and professional accountability.

Unit 3:

Professional Development & Interdisciplinary Collaboration- Roles of

physiotherapists within healthcare teams- Continuing education and skill

development- Communication skills with patients and team members

Building professionalism and teamwork.

Unit 4:

Community Health & Preventive Physiotherapy- Community physiotherapy

programs- Health promotion, disease prevention, and wellness initiatives

Role of physiotherapy in public health and outreach- Advocacy, health

education, and policy influence.
