CERTIFICATION

INTRODUCTION
A blood donation occurs when a person voluntarily
has a blood drawn and used for transfusion or made
into biopharmacutical medications by a process called
fractationation (Separation of a whole blood
components) . Donation may be of whole blood , or of
specific components directly (Apheresis). Blood
banks often participate in the collection process or as
well as the procedures that follow it.

Today in the developed world, most blood donars are

unpaid volunteers who donate blood for community
supply. In some countries, established supplies are
limited and donars usually give blood when family
and friends nees a transfusion (directed donation).
Many donars donate for seversl reasons, such as a
form of charity, general awareness regarding the
demand for blood, increased confidence in oneself,
helping a personal friend or relative and social
pressure . Despite the many reasons the people donate
blood , not enough potential donars actively donate.
However, this is reversed during disasters, when blood
donations increase, often creting an excess supply that
will have to be later discarded. In countries that allow
paid donation some people are paid , and in some
cases there are incentives other than money such as
paid time off from work. People can also have blood
drawn for their own future use (Autologous
Donation). Donating is relatively safe, but some
donors have bruising where the needle is inserted or
may feel faint. Acknowledge the important role of
blood donors in achieving the goal of “Safe Blood
For All” the universal health coverage.

Problem Identification and Cause of

problem :-
Blood is undeniably essential to save lives. The high
demand for blood can’t compete with the amount
collected through blood donation. In order to cater to
the issue, researches tend to focus more on the donars
side . Meanwhile the other party which is the blood
bank continues to play its role to increase the blood
supply.
The blood bank process blood in four stages :
donation, screening, inventory and hospital pick up.
This paper aims to address the challenges and issues
in the local blood bank through ubiquitous computing.
Blood donation is the most critical stage where the
blood bank engages directly with the donars. The
issues and challenges faced by the blood bank are
uncovered by interviews field study and literature
reviews . Each day, thousands of people need donated
blood and blood products to keep them in good health
or allow to stay alive and donating people can keeping
and help these people.
The most common side effect is
bruising at the needle side. A less common side effect
is fainting within a few minutes to a few hours after
donation. A rare side effect is potential nerve and
blood vessel injuryfrom the needle stick. Blood
donation is rather a simple procedure and most people
have done so and feel that they can make it at any
time. However, it is not uncommon for the public,
blood donors and blood services operators to overlook
the health and safety issues that could carry impact to
both donors and blood donation.

Objectives to be achieved :-
Blood is essential to help patients survive surgeries,
cancer treatment, chronic illness and traumatic
injuries. This life saving care starts with one person
making generous donation. The need for blood is
constant. But only about 3% of age - eligible people
donate blood yearly. The objective of collecting blood
through voluntary blood donation are : Provide safe
and quality blood and blood components collected
from voluntarily donors , round the clock, at
affordable cost to the general public and free of cost to
the poor.
• Ensure safety and quality of blood.
• Ensure the community on the beneficial aspect of
blood donation and harmful effect of collectinf blood
from paid donors.
• Promote AIDS awareness and education to the
general public.
• To estimate the cost effectiveness of alternate
minimum donation intervals between whole blood
donation.
• To investigate the frequency at which donors are
willing to donate whole blood according to
alternative hypothetical changes to the blood
donation services.
• To estimate the cost effectiveness of alternative
strategies for maintaining the supply of whole blood.

Various Steps Taken To Achieve The

Objective :-
There are so many programme and compaign is run
by government to blood donation . There are some
programes like voluntary Blood donation Programme
is the foundation for safe and quality Blood
Transfusion services as the blood collection from
voluntary non- renumerated blood donors is
conditioned to the safest . Every year, on 14 June,
countries around the worlds celebrate World Blood
Donor Day. The event serves to thank voluntary,
unpaid blood donors for their life – saving gifts of
blood and to raise awareness of need for regular blood
donations to ensure the quality, safety and availbility
of blood and blood products for pateints in need.
Transfusion of blood and blood products helps save
millions of lives every year. It can help patients
suffering from life threatening conditions live longer
and with a higher quality of life, and supports
complex medical and surgical procedures.
It also has an essential, life saving role in
maternal and child care and during the emergency
response to man- made and natural disaster.
A blood service that give patients access to safe
blood and safe blood and blood products in sufficent
quantity is a key component of an effective health
system. An adequate supply can only be ensured
through regular donation by voluntary, unpaid blood
donors. However, in many countries blood service
face the challenge of making sufficient blood
available, while also ensuring the quality and safety.

There are some of them like:-

1. Compaign 2021 – Communication material “ Give
blood and keep the world beating”. The message
highlights the essential contribution blood donors
make to keeping the world pulsating by saving the
lives and improving others health. It reinforces the
global call for more people all over the world to
donate blood regularly and contribute to better health.
A special focus of that year’s compaign was the role
of young people in ensuring and safe blood supply. In
many countries, young people have been at the
forefront of activities and initiatives aimed at
achieving safe blood supplies through voluntary, non-
remurated blood donations. Young people from a large
sector of the population in many societies and are
generally full of idealism, enthusiasm and cretivity.

2. Compaign 2020 :- Communication material “Save

blood save lives” with the slogan “Give blood and
make the world a heathier place”. The need for the
safe blood is universal. Safe blood is critical both for
treatment and interventions. It can help patients
suffering from life- threatening conditions live longer
and with a higher quality of life and support complex ,
medical and surgical procedure. Blood is also vital for
treating the wounded during emergencies of all kinds
( natural disaster, accidents , armed conflicts; etc.)
and has an essential life – saving role in maternal and
neonatal care. The cost - effectiveness of alternative
strategies for maintaining the blood supply, drawing
on findings from the surveys and the analyses of the
Interval trial. The design analysis and interpretation
of each component of the research have been
informed by the key service provider ( NHSBT), a
public representative and current whole blood donors.
At the design stage, we identified
strategies to improve oppurtunities for existing blood
donors to donate. The strategies were identified
through a review of NHSBT documents describing
future strategies and policies the results of market
research , an informal review of relevant published
literature, consultation with NHSBT colleagus and
insights from preliminary qualitative research
undertaken with INTERVAL donors. The following
strategies were chosen for the evalution presented is :-
(a). Provision of a health report, including cholestrol
and blood pressure tests, for all the donors at each
whole blood donation visit.
(b). Extended opening hours ( weekends or evening ) ,
for both static donor centres and mobile sessions
for collecting whole blood.
(c). Increase in the maximum number of whole blood
donation per yeasr for current donors attending
static donor centres as per the INTERVAL trial.
The proposed solution takes advantages of the
ubiquitous computing concept that enables
devices to: Communicate with each other
seamlessly. With the advancement of mobile
technology , smartphones become the closest of an
devices to each ubiquitous computing communication
and wifi aid the interation between the user and the
system which are expected to solve the challenges and
issues by blood donation.

Effectiveness of the project

There were three main changes made to the research
originally proposed. First, the cost – effectiveness
analysis focussed on alternative strategies for current
whole – blood donors and did not consider alternative
strategies for the recruitment of new donors. The
NHSBT suggested that an evalution of the effect of
alternative strategies for pre – existing whole blood
donors would provide more relevant evidence to
inform future strategy. As we all know that due to
many compaign runs by government for the
awareness of blood donation between people it’s
somewhat getting success in making people donate
blood voluntarily. We have so many new ways to
advertise about it and spread awareness just like social
media ( instagrasm , twitter, etc) and distributing
pamplets and helping peoples to understand its
advantages upon their health. But , still it needed in
rural areas, people afraid about it so much so they
hesistates even giving their blood to their own family
members. So, it needed more awareness campaign
where people afraid of blood donation because they
think it is high risking their own health and its a very
big procedure for them to follow which low theirs self
– esteem to donate blood. But, at the world wide level
it is getting success and people willingly coming
infront to help others.

Conclusions
We know that there is a quote given by Dr. Desimone,
“One blood donation can save upto three lives”.
People usually donate because it feels good to help
others, and alruism and volunteering have been linked
to positive health outcomes, including a lower risk for
depression and greater longevity. We also know that
there is many benefits of blood donation there’s are -
1. It is linked to lower blood pressure and a lower risk
for heart attacks. It definitely helps to reduce
cardiovascular risk factors.
2. Identifying adverse health efforts like anaemia or
high or high or low blood pressure. Donating blood
csn help many health conditions of donors also. Some
of its advantages are-
a. Having internal and external bleeding due to an
injury.
b. Are undergoing cancer treatment and so on.
Donating blood is safe as long as the centre follows
the standard quality. However, there are some
potential disadvantages of donating blood they are -
(i). Temprory reaction like weakness, dizziness,
nausea, vomiting, etc.
(ii). In rare case, a person may experience more
severe like low blood pressure, muscle contraction.
However, with safety precautions we can overcome it
like using screening donors for existing health
condition, using new needles for each donation, etc.
Government should made more campaign all over the
country for the blood donation programmes and also
make aware people by its advantages and
disadvantages and also help in removing fear between
people related to its. Overall, it’s effect is good of
many people who aware about all this they are
volunteering themselves wilingly , but we need more
information about this and many more campaigns in
rural areas of our country.

I conclude my CDP (Community Development

Project) by giving thanks to all the members who
assigned me such a project and the people who helped
me throughout my project which was full of
experience and learnings.
