PART – A
1. INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTERS
- A computer is an electronic machine that takes input, processes it, and produces output.
- Components: Input devices, Output devices, CPU, Storage devices.

Input Devices: Keyboard, Mouse, Scanner, Touch screen, Joystick, Microphone, Digital camera,
Barcode reader, Biometric sensor.
Output Devices: Monitor, Printer, Speaker, Plotter.
Storage: Magnetic Tape, USB, Pen drive, Hard disk.

Computing Concepts:
- Data = raw facts; Information = processed data.
- RAM = temporary memory, ROM = permanent instructions.
- CPU = Control Unit + ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit) + Memory Unit.

2. COMPUTER SOFTWARE TYPES


- System Software: Runs hardware (Windows, Linux).
- Application Software: User programs (Word, Excel, Chrome).
- Embedded Software: Fixed software in devices (washing machine, ATM).
- Proprietary Software: Paid (MS Office).
- Open Source Software: Free, modifiable (Linux, LibreOffice).

3. OPERATING SYSTEM
- Purpose: Manages hardware and software.
- Single User OS: One person at a time (MS-DOS, Windows).
- Multi-User OS: Many users at once (Linux, UNIX).

4. WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEM


- GUI vs CUI: GUI uses icons/mouse; CUI uses text commands.
- File operations: Create, copy, delete files.
- Running apps via Start Menu or Program Manager.
- Setting up peripherals: Printer, Scanner, Webcam via Control Panel.

5. LINUX / MAC OS
Linux: Open-source, secure, used in servers.
- Commands: ls (list), cd (change dir), mkdir (new folder), chmod (permissions).

Mac OS: Apple's OS, smooth, secure, good performance.

6. INTERNET CONCEPTS
Requirements: Computer, modem/router, browser, OS.
Protocols: HTTP/HTTPS, FTP.
IP Address: Unique identifier of system (e.g., 192.168.1.1).
Steps: Connect modem -> ISP -> Browser -> Browse.
Uploading = sending file to internet, Downloading = receiving file.

7. ELECTRONIC MAIL
- Send/Receive emails via Gmail, Outlook.
- Functions: Attachments, CC/BCC, Inbox.
- Mailing lists: Group mails like newsletters.

8. WORLD WIDE WEB


- Advantages: Global access, e-commerce, learning.
- Navigation: Browsers like Chrome, Firefox.
- Searching: Google, Bing.

PART – B
1. OFFICE SUITE
- Collection of office tools: MS Office, LibreOffice, NeoOffice.
Includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

2. GETTING STARTED WITH OFFICE


- Starting and exiting applications.
- Office Shortcut Bar: Quick access toolbar.
- Customization: Add frequently used commands.

3. FILE OPERATIONS IN OFFICE


- Create file, enter/edit text, save, open, close, exit.
- Manage files with folders.

4. TOOLS IN OFFICE
- Cut, Copy, Paste (Ctrl+X/C/V).
- Drag & Drop editing.
- Undo (Ctrl+Z), Redo (Ctrl+Y).
- Spell Check, AutoCorrect (teh -> the).
- Find & Replace (replace words quickly).
- Templates and Wizards: Resume, letters.
- Help/Assistant: F1 key.
